4.0 out of 5 stars Great Compressor, Not Really too Portable
Before you buy compressor make sure you take the time to ask yourself how important portability is? 4.0 out of 5 stars Great Compressor, Not Really too Portable, June 24, 2001

This review is from: Porter-Cable CPL6025 6 HP, 25-Gallon Oil Lube Compressor (Tools & Home Improvement)
Before you buy compressor make sure you take the time to ask yourself how important portability is? My wrench head friend purchased a 60 gallon upright unit with tons of air but once its in place you never want to move it again. This is great if you are only using your air tools in one place. However, when I asked him about what compressor to buy, his first word of advice was to buy something portable.

After doing a lot of research, I settled on the PC 6025. This unit has plenty of air to run any of the nailers I own. It also will run a HVLP spray gun without a hitch.

One world of caution about the PC6025. It may have wheels but this is one seriously heavy compressor. If you have a workshop in your basement and its not a walkout, plan on getting a buddy to help you carry the 6025 down stairs and more than likely you won't be bringing it up anytime soon. I ultimately went out a bought a little 5 gallon compressor for $150 bucks to use as a truly portable compressor.

I have a small shop (our two car garage) and I am very sensitive to noise. So, you can guess, that my two top priorities were a quiet unit that I could operate in the shop while I was working, yet powerful enough to drive my wide range of pneumatic tools. If you have the same requirements, you are reading about your dream compressor. This unit is smooth and powerful Once again PC has delivered a nice piece of engineering. I have placed it in my shop under a table that I do most of my assembly and work. It kicks on and burrs for a few seconds and goes to sleep for a long period while I am firing nails or something. I measured the noise level while it was running and it is well within the range. I just love this compressor!

I have a small shop and was looking for a quiet compressor, portable, with a large enough capacity to handle a variety of tasks. I had an old sears 220v compressor that was very quiet that finally gave up the ghost. I borrowed a relatives compressor that was so loud that I couldn't stand it any longer. After reading other reviews I purchased the CPL6025 and it's everything I hoped for. Highly recommend it for someone with the same needs as me.

5.0 out of 5 stars best compressor for the price, December 13, 2002

THIS COMPRESSOR HAS BEEN A DREAM COME TRUE I BOUGHT THIS COMPRESSOR TO REPLACE MY LITTLE FOUR GALLON COMPRESSOR.THIS COMPRESSOR IS VERY QUIET COMPARED TO THE DIRECT DRIVE ONES.THIS ONE HAS A DBA RATING OF 78 WHILE MOST DIRECT DRIVE OIL OR OIL-FREE MODELS HAVE 90 DBA OR HIGHER.I CAN WORK RIGHT NEXT TO THIS COMPRESSOR WITH NO HEARING PROTECTION.IT HAS THE BEST OUTPUT IN ITS CLASS WITH 6.8 @ 90 PSI AND 8.6 @ 40 PSI AND VERY WELL PRICED AT LOWE'S FOR [cheap].I USED MY PAINT SPRAYER FOR HOURS ON END AND THE COMPRESSOR NEVER FELL SHORT OF MY AIR DEMANDS.I EXPECT THIS QUALITY TOOL TO LAST ME FOR 15 YEARS.COMPARED TO MY OTHER ONE WHICH LASTED FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS.
THE UNIT WAS VERY WELL PACKED IT CAME PACKED WITH ENOUGH PADDING TO DO 20 OTHER COMPRESSORS THE WAY OTHER MANUFACTURS PACK THEIR COMPRESSORS.THERE IS DEFINITELY NO SHORT CUTS IN WORKMANSHIP THIS COMPRESSOR IS PROUDLY MADE IN THE U.S.A..

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Compressor for Average Woodworker, April 29, 2004
By
This review is from: Porter-Cable CPL6025 6 HP, 25-Gallon Oil Lube Compressor (Tools & Home Improvement)
I held off on this review because a had to get a replacement. The first one was pretty banged up in shipment. I believe the reason for this is do to insufficient packing. The unit is not bolted to the pallet and only held on with 2 plastic bands. This wouldn't be a problem, but the unit is top heavy. The 2nd unit I received arrived in good shape, but I had had my fingers crossed. The styrofoam was pretty shattered. The setup was smooth except for trying to line up the holes to get the wire piece in that holds the handle in place--a minor design problem. Man, this puppy is quiet--especially compared to my little Emglo 1.5hp. It runs smooth and doesn't cycle on very often when driving nails. I would have given 5 stars except for the packing problem. It seems like it's just what I wanted since I need something that is an all-around machine. I need it for nailing, spraying, and other small jobs. I also needed something portable to work around the house replacing siding, etc.. Amazon was very nice and understanding in making the replacement. I do have to crate up the 1st one and send it back, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Compressor!!, January 2, 2003

I use this compressor in a wood shop and it provides enough air pressure for all my needs. It is also quiet, but fills the tank very fast. The output pressure valve is convenient and easy to use so you don't have to spend a lot of time trying to set the proper air pressure for the tool you are using. The 6025 is also great because of its portability. All in all, this is a great compressor that can handle a large variety of jobs... p.s. Be sure to read manual before operating the machine it offers very good advice that should be followed..
