Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Porter-Cable CPLDC2541S 2.5 HP 4 Gallon Oil-Lube Air Compressor

From the Manufacturer

Porter-Cable is proud to introduce our first oil-lube compressor. When we first put our engineers on the task of designing an oil-lube compressor we gave them one priority; it could not have the same imported pump as all the other major brands have. So, in true Porter-Cable fashion the engineers came up with a completely different pump. Just as in a car, the lubrication system in the pump is the most vital part in a compressor. That is why this unit was designed with a patent pending oil slinger design as an integral part of the crankshaft that continues to lubricate the piston in any angle. The robust connecting rod utilizes an oversized ball bearing for smooth operation under any condition. The design features don't stop there; it boasts a cast-iron cylinder, stainless steel Swedish valves, and an automotive type paper filter to trap unwanted particles before they enter the system. The crankcase itself was designed to hold 8 ounces of oil, twice as much as in competitive models. Now, take this revolutionary pump engineered to last over 3,000 hours of use and add in the "High Pressure Technology" and you have compressor that will run at 150 pounds per square inch (PSI). The large bore and short stroke were design to pump out 5.4 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) @ 40 psi and 4.1 SCFM @ 90 psi. The 2.5 horsepower induction motor is safely shrouded and acts as a wind tunnel providing more than enough air to cool the unit down even under the most strenuous conditions. The 4.3-gallon side stack design comes complete with one high-flow quick-connect, a high-flow regulator, pressure gauge and tank gauge. This unit is perfectly equipped for all day every day usage.

  • Higher 120 PSI cut-in pressure assures nails will be completely driven in before pump cycles on
  • Two pole, 3,450 RPM capacitor start induction motor for maximum air delivery
  • High-FloSM air regulator for more work at higher pressure (125 PSI start and 150 PSI stop pressure switch)
  • Low 12 Amp motor draw prevents accidental tripping of circuit breakers

1.0 out of 5 stars Takes to much power and is too loud (also flimsy switch), December 6, 2002
This review is from: Porter-Cable CPLDC2541S 2.5 HP 4 Gallon Oil-Lube Air Compressor (Tools & Home Improvement)
This compressor absolutely will NOT run on 15 amps. Either the motor bogs down and won't run or it will pop the breaker. This makes this compressor almost usless for me because I can never find anywhere to plug it in. And if you DO find a 20 amp circiut to run it on forget about running any other tools on that circuit.

Also it is overly loud. I was just working in a basement at the same time as a guy that had a Hitachi compressor and his was less than HALF as loud.

I have NEVER been disappointed with anything from PC... until now.

I wrote the above review a week ago... Here's an update.
The guy helping me tripped over the air hose and it caught on the little shutoff lever. This piece is connected to a plastic piece inside the electrical hosing, which broke off. This piece of plastic is about the size of a pencil lead. Now my compressor won't even shut off. If you leave it run it will pump up to 175 psi and then blow the relief valve. And I now have to go plug it in to make it turn on since the switch is broken off.

This tool is NOT made to be used at a construction site. I'm seriously thinking about just leaving this for the garbage man and buying the DeWalt Emglo compressor.

Another update...
I ended up buying a CastAir air compressor. CastAir is not a commercial brand, but the factory where they are made is about 2 miles from my house in Chaska, MN. These compressors were only recently made available to non-commercial applications (previously they specialized in huge compressors used in body shops, etc.). I LOVE my new 4 gal. twin tank. It's quiet, powerful, and SOLID as a ROCK!!! A REAL contractor grade compressor for the same amount as I paid for this PC. I have NO relationship or incentive to recommend CastAir other than I'm a very satisfied customer. Check them out if you want a REALLY great compressor.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too loud too flimsy, July 18, 2003

I bought this compressor a few day ago. Well, it's quieter than 5.5 hp oilfree compressor I used to have, but still too loud for me. Also gauges do not have any protection and on/off switch is just a joke. Otherwise it works just fine. I'll get something else tomorrow anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars Runs on 15 amp circuit even on extension cord, August 7, 2007
This review is from: Porter-Cable CPLDC2541S 2.5 HP 4 Gallon Oil-Lube Air Compressor (Tools & Home Improvement)
This compressor works fine on a 15 amp 110V circuit. Even on a long extension cord (100') it does not pop my breakers. Good compressor for the price.
