5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gun for the Money
For the money, you can't beat the DA250A. Although not the lightest nailer, it is very manageable. The angled magazine makes it manuverable in tight spaces. Although it uses oil, the exhaust port can be directed (without tools) away from the work so there's no fear of oil marring your new wood. I do finish work with a big Co. They buy these guns because of the price.I want to do my best work always,I expect the same in my tools, these things are heavy, large, and amazingly loud. They kick back harder and leave this great big hole. The down time fiddling with them long since lost any savings. Not a good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gun for the Money, November 1, 2000
This review is from: Porter-Cable DA250A 15 Gauge, 2-1/2-Inch Angle Nailer Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
For the money, you can't beat the DA250A. Although not the lightest nailer, it is very manageable. The angled magazine makes it manuverable in tight spaces. Although it uses oil, the exhaust port can be directed (without tools) away from the work so there's no fear of oil marring your new wood. Clearing jams (what few you might have) is a cinch with the hinged door on the front of the magazine.

I compared this to the new N62 Bostitch ... While the Bostitch was much lighter, I attribute this to the fact that the Bostitch has a PLASTIC magazine instead of aluminum like the PC. I would rather have the more rugged magazine.

One final note: This nailer now is shipped with the red colored restrictive fire trigger which makes the gun work great. No more of the problems listed by previous reviewers.

A great gun for DIYers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great finish nailer, April 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Porter-Cable DA250A 15 Gauge, 2-1/2-Inch Angle Nailer Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
After 8 months of use installing trim, I am very impressed with the PC finish nailer. The gun rarely jams and the jams are easily cleared. The feature to control the depth of countersink is convenient and very accurate. The only potential weakness is the standard trigger which allows firing multiple nails when the nailer "kicks back" when nailing in very dense hardwoods such as oak and maple. There is a free retrofit to address this problem.

This is a great nailer and is better than the more expensive ones I've used previously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Machine - Does What I Want, May 4, 2000

I purchased this gun when getting ready to build a replacement set of stairs - landing, outside my colonial era house. I am not a professional builder (now) but have considerable experience building furniture, additions, stairs, sheds, etc... This gun DOES suffer from multiple firings with the standard trigger, however a free replacement single shot only trigger will be shipped immediately upon a call to their 800 number. This trigger eliminates the problem entirely. I recommend this gun highly.

This gun fit my budget and I think it works just fine. It doesn't seem heavy to me and it has all the features that the other ones have. I don't think you can go wrong here. It shoots 15 ga. nails from 1 1/4" to 2 1/2" lenghths. If money is no problem then the hitachi or senco might be the way to go but this gun works very well and I feel good about the purchase. Mine came with the restrictive fire trigger so I have no problem with double taps. As far as power goes you don't have to worry about that on this gun because it sinks the nail every time....

4.0 out of 5 stars Good gun for the money!, April 29, 2000
This review is from: Porter-Cable DA250A 15 Gauge, 2-1/2-Inch Angle Nailer Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great gun for the money, but I dont think anyone in the industrial arena should go for it.

PROS

**Well Priced

**Doesn't jam much

**You can throw away that nailset! (it sets your nail in any wood)

**Very easy to clear jammed nails.

CONS

**Also, it drives REALLY hard and this may cause the gun to wear out faster.

**For a finish nailer it is kind of heavy so it isn't something you would want to get if you are going to use it day-in/day-out.

**Double fires alot. I have used many nail guns, but none misfire like this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tool but..., June 30, 2000
This review is from: Porter-Cable DA250A 15 Gauge, 2-1/2-Inch Angle Nailer Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I went ahead and bought one of these as a fourth gun even though I like Senco guns better. It's not bad for an import. I never have trouble setting the nail with it. I really like the adjustable exaust. I also like the rubber grip. What I don't like about it, is that it's made in Taiwan. It's quite loud and rough in operation. It has a lot more kickback than a Senco. Other than that it's a good tool. Since I like having the best , I kind of wish I had spent a little more on another Senco or Hitachi.

I bought this gun to do finish work in the dining room. I am pleased with it so far, no jams no other problems. It took a little getting used to as I have never used a "Fire Restricted" trigger that comes stock on this gun. I was used to the "Bump Fire" type trigger so it took a little getting used to to get the trim in tight to the wall first then pull the trigger. Small issue in an other wise great tool. I read that the bump fire trigger is available from the Manufacurer for free, so I may order it. Porter Cable has yet to let me down in it's tools.

2.0 out of 5 stars DA 250A Porter-Cable finish nailer, March 31, 2000
This review is from: Porter-Cable DA250A 15 Gauge, 2-1/2-Inch Angle Nailer Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I just purchased this nailer and have used it for about 50 nails so far. The hair-trigger is verrry touchy. Bumping delivers just one nail okay, but requires a good aim attaching casings to jambs. What gets cumbersome is the local unavailability of P-C finish nails. Another brand I am using jams badly. The manual is straight-forward in saying only P-C approved nails are going to work okay. I guess I'll try to get them via mail-order. The nails P-C provided with the gun worked flawlessly, so I will adjust to its finicky diet.

As a professional house-builder I am VERY impressed with this gun. It shoots through the hardest oak with no problem. Like all pneumatic nail guns, it can be touchy in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to use it. All nail guns will "double shoot" if not handled properly. My only advise would be to practice until you are comfortable using the gun, or stick to a hammer.
