5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool... I don'tknow how I did without it!
The Porter Cable FN250A finish nailer is one of the best tools I have purchased. After spending many hours putting up trim in my house the old fashioned way - drill hole, drive nail, then set the nail, this nailer has made my life easier. You just hold the trim in place, set the nailer where you want and pull the trigger! The nail drives straight and properly...

1.0 out of 5 stars Toy Gun
I own an interior trim company and between myself and my employees we install thousands of feet of trim a week. I have been using senco guns for many years with great success. I have found that the 15 gauge nails to be a too expensive. I bought a Paslode 2 1/2" 16ga. streight nailer a year ago. It is a good gun jams from time to time and double fires too, but is...

The nail drives straight and properly recessed; it couldn't be easier since the tool is very light weight and easy to handle. I highly recommend this tool to anyone that is even the casual remodeler. I only wish that I had bought this a few years ago!

5.0 out of 5 stars Porter-Cable FN250A, June 5, 2000
This review is from: Porter-Cable FN250A 2-1/2-Inch 16-Gauge Finish Nailer (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have been building my own house now for the past 2 years, buying tools as I need them. I have several air-powered nailers. None compare with the ease of use the Porter-Cable brand offers. I particularly like the wide range of nail lengths and the depth adjustment capability. Many other brands have very limited ability to handle differing nail lengths. Adjusting the driven nail depth on other nailers requires adjusting air pressure or complicated affairs needing wrenches. The FN250A has solved these two issues nicely. I highly recommend it. Now, if they would only develop an interchangeable nailing head and nail cartridge rail . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars A tough, flexible tool, March 4, 2000

I bought one of these nailers to help in building a large wooden fence. Loading nails and changing nail lengths is quick and easy, as is changing the depth setting. I've fired over 2,000 Paslode F-16 1.5" nails so far with no jams. My 1.5HP 3 gallon tank compressor easily keeps up with a rapid work pace. You won't need a larger compressor. I don't think you can go wrong with this nailer.

I bought this nailer last year to remodel a house. In a few months I shot over 10,000 nailes from 1" to 2.5" without any trouble. I used several other nailers before and none compare to this one. I used to to attach everything from bead board to 2x4's. It is great. In the instuctions it says to use a little metal insert for using small nails. I don't use mine and the gun has worked fine without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best tool in the shop, August 5, 2000

Save time, money, and most of all your mind. Before I would sit and nail for hours. What use to take 2 hours now takes 10 minutes. This is a great tool and I would recomend it to anyone that wants an air powered nailer. The best feature is that if a nail jams you can free it it about 10 secounds no joke. Like I said the BEST TOOL IN MY SHOP.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good finish nailer for the money, March 17, 2000

I have one these and a Bostitch which both shoot the same nails. They are both manufactured in Taiwan, but so are lots of things.

I've never had a nail jamb. I use either gun interchangeably, but seem to prefer the Bostitch just a little more.

I would recommend this nailer to anyone. Of course, I own a slew of Porter-Cable tools and would recommend any of them too!

Well after a year of owning this tool I am convinced that it is eveything I will ever need it to be. Just finished all the trim work in three new homes - never one problem with it.

On the other hand, my Bostitch would not fire!!!!!!!

Ole' Porter Cable comes through again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice tool with limited flexibility, August 10, 2001

This is a great tool but the adapter to switch between nail lengths is a pain. In order to switch between nails over or under 1 1/4" you have to install an adapter. The adapter is attached by a cap screw and nylon lock nut, requiring an allen wrench and pair of pliers. I would have rather seen a pin with ball locks or something that doesn't require tools and is faster. Building furniture and cabinets requires a lot of different size nails and changing sizes with this tool is time consuming. Time is money.

This review is from: Porter-Cable FN250A 2-1/2-Inch 16-Gauge Finish Nailer (Tools & Home Improvement)
Bought the Porter Cable FN250A approximately 3 months ago and could not be happier with it. Have fired 10,000 nails with only one jam. The one jam clearing took less than a minute to clear. Have used high priced brand name nails and low priced nails, the gun doesn't care, except for the one jam it shoots whatever I feed it. Love the lightweight and solid balanced feel too. My wife has started using it even though she is usually not into power tools. Adjusting the nail depth is easy with a few practice shots into some scrap material. Have never had a double fire or surprise fire which is important to me from a safety standpoint. Always oil and maintain the nailgun according to the manufacturers instructions and I think this is the key to my success with it as well as its quality. My only regret is that I didn't buy one sooner. The Porter Cable Brad Nailer is a nice companion to the FN250A. I bought one of those after I was satisfied with the FN250A. The Brad Nailer is handy for smaller work projects but has the same quality feel and performance.

After months of bending finish nails and putting big dents in my molding, I finally had enough. I bought this FN250A not having ever used a power nailer or having any idea which one was the best. Now I feel so stupid for not spending the bucks earlier. It's the best tool investment I ever made. It took 5 minutes with the instruction manual, and 10 practice shots and I'm a pro. The FN250 is lightweight and soooo easy to use. Even my wife likes to use it. With its safety features, I don't feel uncomfortable with it in any way. I highly recommend it...particularly for the do-it-yourself types.
