Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Porter-Cable NS100A 18 Gauge 1/2-Inch to 1-Inch Narrow Crown Stapler

From the Manufacturer

A handy little project stapler, this 1/4-inch crown stapler has as many features as larger, more expensive units. Several features protect the project from accidental damage. First, a built-in depth-of-drive adjustment allows precise countersinking of staples to match the application. Also, the safety contact is behind the nose, allowing better visibility in low clearance situations so staples are accurately placed. A removable rubber tip prevents damage to delicate materials. Finally, a restrictive-fire trigger allows only one staple to fire, eliminating "double" firing. The adjustable exhaust port also protects the operator by allowing the exhausted air to be deflected away when a close look at the work is required. With a fastener range of 1/2- to 1-inch, this stapler is great for a variety of tasks including assembling drawer boxes, fastening cabinet backs and paneling. In the event of a jammed staple, the quick-release nosepiece allows easy clearing and reduced down time. Includes stapler, carrying case, pack of 1,000 staples, 1/4-inch male quick coupler plug with dust cap, oil, Allen wrenches, and operator's manual. NOTE: This nailer comes with a restrictive-fire trigger standard. A bump-fire trigger, which allows holding the trigger down and bumping the safety contact to fire, is available free-of-charge from the manufacturer. Please provide the model number and serial number of each nailer requiring a trigger. For identification purposes, the bump-fire trigger is black and the restrictive-fire trigger is red.

3.0 out of 5 stars Know its limitations, April 3, 2001

This review is from: Porter-Cable NS100A 18 Gauge 1/2-Inch to 1-Inch Narrow Crown Stapler (Tools & Home Improvement)
I recently used this tool to staple a screen mesh under the eaves of my house. When shooting staples downward, it worked fine. However, it did have significant problems when used to shoot staples upward as the staples tended to fall down in the holder and they would not always advance or they would often cause the stapler to jam.

One jam ultimately completely froze up the tool and I had to return it. Also, the design of the staple holder could be better. It was very difficult to close at times and often became stuck open requiring disassembly of this portion of the tool.

I attribute most of these problems to shooting staples upward however.

If you will use the stapler often, I would go for the higher quality/cost model.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Staple Is Crowned, August 8, 2005
This review is from: Porter-Cable NS100A 18 Gauge 1/2-Inch to 1-Inch Narrow Crown Stapler (Tools & Home Improvement)
This pneumatic stapler was an unexpected new advance for me,coming free as a bonus after buying a Porter-Cable compressor/finish nailer/brad nailer package. At first, I didn't know where you use a stapler instead of a nailer. I didn't even know why they call it a "crown" stapler-it's not used for crown molding. It sat unused for several months.

Then one day I saw some professionals putting up stucco wire-a chore I'd always hated-with a stapler. Bingo. As soon as I started using this stapler instead of a hammer and roofing nails, the time consumed dropped by about 75%. And the job was actually fun, instead of a thing that elicited curses and involuntary procrastination. You put the wire up on the wall, and after a very satisfying bam bam bam, it's done.

I'm sure the pros use a wider staple, or a staple with a wider "crown", so to speak. With this unit, you have to take a couple seconds each time to center the nose on the wire because the staple is only a quarter of an inch wide. Aside from that, it's a dream tool for a nightmare job. I actually look for stuff to use it on (soffits, cedar shingles) because it's such a pleasure to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best and broadly used guns on the market!, April 20, 2006
This review is from: Porter-Cable NS100A 18 Gauge 1/2-Inch to 1-Inch Narrow Crown Stapler (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have no idea what Mr.John P. Wolfe is talking about...

We have over 20 of these and have never had one single problem as Mr. Wolfe says he did......

We shoot UP! DOWN! SIDEWAYS! EVERYWAY you can think of...

And use both the NS100A and the NS150A guns.

The #1 problem any owner will have will occure when sawdust, and other harsh grit is left in and around the gun.

The #2 problem is caused by NOT oiling the gun! 20 drops per 1000 staples or brads for that matter is a good starting point.

The #3 problem is caused by not enough air pressure. 50 lbs is a good safe point to use.

The #4 problem is not using PORTER CABLE BRAND staples, nails or brads.... and this can be a big one for some off brand nails!

This is a very good gun! Porter Cable only puts out GOOD GUNS!

In fact I have to say that 75% of all complaints people have with these guns are due to one of the above reasons!

*Porter Cable* 100 years and still #1 in the industry!
