5.0 out of 5 stars A super tool
The remote control makes it a great tool for one person. The dot is much brighter than the lasers that display a continous line and no detector is needed. It can be seen for at least 100'. The price is right and it can pay for itself in one job.

3.0 out of 5 stars adequate, yet cheap
I only rated this item as 3 stars because I couldn't rate it 3 1/2. I like it because it is inexpensive, and yet it still works for the jobs that I need it for. I do however, wish that it was a true rotary laser. It doesn't spin fast enough to project a solid line on the wall, so you will have to pull out your old chalkline. I do however, wish that it was a true rotary laser. It doesn't spin fast enough to project a solid line on the wall, so you will have to pull out your old chalkline. Overall, it's a satisfactory tool, and I especially like the option of having a remote control.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Performance for the Money, January 17, 2003

I purchased by robolaser last year (without the line generator and tripod) and have used it on several projects. I have been pleased with its performance. I have never had to recalibrate it though I treat it gently. For example, I am always sure to shut the slide over the "eye" of the laser as this locks the mechanism to prevent damage. The tool has worked for me and I would recommend it to others. Be aware that this tool eats batteries and I always travel with spares in the case to avoid having to stop and go buy more.

I recently purchased a laser pole for interior work and a tripod is a great idea for exterior work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the money, bad for the pro!!, April 25, 2003

We have purchased five (5) Robo Lasers, and just because we have made that many purchases of it should let you know that there is something we like about it. It works well and the fact that it is self leveling and remote control, makes a one man project out of most line setting. The "bad for the pro" as formentioned comes from the experience that we have had with it. It is kind of like a hologen light..... it is great to have when you need it, but knock it over just once and you just as well throw it in the roll-off dumpster. My crew find themselves working outside in the breeze and sometimes wind quite frequently.... the laser on the tripod and a brisk breese = no more laser level... be prepaired to treat this one with kid gloves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tool, December 3, 2002

I am a small remodeling contractor and have had my RoboLaser for 1 1/2 years. It has been used outside for decks and inside for counter/cabinet work and has performed flawlessly. It's a far cry better to use the robolaser than a bubble level or water level over long distances in regard to accuracy, speed and convenience. It is a precision tool and needs to be treated as such. If you're inclined to use a 2 foot aluminum level as a hammer or a 4 foot aluminum level as a pry bar then this is not the tool for you. If you use words like "throw", "toss", "bang", "banging around", "slam" when describing how you use your tools, you'll probably break this laser (and probably most precision tools). If you fancy yourself a bit more refined, then by all means, invest in this tool. As a side note I've contacted the people at RoboToolz.com (by phone) and found them to be very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good value and a very useful tool, June 5, 2002

I purchased this item mainly due to the remote control. I usually work alone and the ability for one person to use this thing is great. I have found the beam to be bright enough to be used outside (though I was in the shade). The other feature I found important was the price. I couldn't justify the hugh prices that some self leveling lasers demanded.

As another reviewer mentioned, this is not a rotary laser. It will not project a laserline around a room. It also does not have the rotary laser price. I used my laser to mark points and then snapped chalk lines between the points. That worked very well for me since I would want a mark on the wall for tile alinement. I have noticed that newer models than mine now apparently come with a clip-on lens that spreads the dot into a line. I don't know if this feature works well on not.

So if you need a tool that can help a single user level a foundation for a deck or mark reference points on a wall to be then connected with a chalk line, this thing is great.

1.0 out of 5 stars piece of junk, June 16, 2002

This review is from: Porter-Cable RoboToolz RB01001K RoboLaser Self-Leveling Laser Level with Adjustable Tripod (Tools & Home Improvement)
If there were a no star option, I would rate the Robolazer accordingly. It is a piece of junk. It must be cheaply made, because I had nothing but trouble with it from day one. It was NOT accurate past the first couple of days and calibrating it is a joke. I suspect my unit was a bad apple as it was apparently falling apart from the day I got it. Because it was NOT level according to the calibration procedure, I attempted to calibrate it. There was no calibration screw for the allen wrench, and when you rolled the unit back and forth, you could hear a rattle like a loose screw. I guess being in my truck tool box for only brief periods of a few days,in its foam case, was too much for it. I did not try to calibrate it until after the one year warranty had expired. I guess I thought it would get better if I ignored it. My advice to anyone thinking about buying the Robolazer: DON'T buy it. Spend a little more and buy a rotating lazer level. And if you fool yourself into thinking it's o.k. to buy it, check the accuracy AND try the calibration procedure immediately to make sure all the parts are in place.

1.0 out of 5 stars A displeased Robolaser Owner, June 16, 2002
This review is from: Porter-Cable RoboToolz RB01001K RoboLaser Self-Leveling Laser Level with Adjustable Tripod (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased both the Robolaser and Robolevel. After trying to used the 'laser', I found it was not calibrated from the factory and would not calibrate...it is a toy!... Spend a little extra and purchase a better laser!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional, April 30, 2002

This level has become an indespensible member of my construction business. It is inexpensive enough so that you do not have to treat it with kid gloves (and tough enough), while still being accurate enough to use for all types of elevation and leveling situations.
The Remote with speed control is great (as long as you don't break the antenna...)The beam is bright enough for all outdoor applications.
I was afraid that this was a toy, don't worry - it is not.

5.0 out of 5 stars good buy!, June 29, 2003

At the last cabinet shop I worked at we were thinking about a laser level but never purchased one. I went to work at a high end cabinet shop and they have three of them. the owner said he wished he would have purcahased them when he was installing! we use it to find the high and low spots in the room to set our toe kick to. we make our marks then snap a line for reference, then use the stabila levels to fine tune. I was just on a job and I let the tile guy use it and he was very impressed ! he will be carrying one soon !!!
