I can't find fault with the technical aspects of this book, so if that's a deal-breaker for you (as it is for me), never fear. The structure and pacing are good, and there's a nice sense of suspense through most of the book. But overall, the writing style is simplistic and the characterization boring. There's no sense of urgency or even real sympathy for the characters and the hero is rendered with trite language. It's like the author took a plot map and input characters and a setting without any real passion for storytelling. Ultimately not worth my time, even if it was free.

This was a ghost story that originated a long time ago. Interesting idea for a story, but I was disappointed. This was a romantic ghost story that became a little too explicit for me, but you might like this type of book. Spoiler alert: At the end, a creature was killed, didn't even have a chance to be a major player in the end after we were told enough about the animal to feel some affection for it. I had trouble with other implausible aspects of the book, but this just totally ruined it for me.

Okay guys, I'll be the first to admit that when I hear the word "romance" in connection with a book, I automatically think of my wife's Harlequin books...yeah thanks, but no thanks. Well let me assure you, this book is NOT your typical romance novel. There is plenty here to keep a man coming back page after page - it's got a great story and a fast pace, with great action elements. Give it a read, you won't regret it!

The plot had so much potential, but after reading the first 100 pages I just couldn't take it any longer. This book needed to be checked for proper grammar. There are a lot of sentences missing basic connective words such as to, at, .... etc. Sentence construction was confusing at times, not to mention the inconsistencies in the story line. The year span does not add up. There is too much repetition of words like yellow and yip. I wish the author would of separated both present and past instead of the journal. No one that I know writes a journal that includes other people's conversation. The author did not do any research on the proper grammar used in the early 1900's. I'm glad I did not spent any money on it. It was a huge disappointment.

Story is predictable, colorless, and poorly written. If this author were 12, I might be impressed. Even the love scenes are uninteresting. The editor who reviewed this should be fired for all the writing mistakes he/she missed. I recommend not wasting time on this story.

This book provides the reader with a modern day story of an old-fashioned haunting, complete with ghosts, murder and hidden family secrets. The many twists and turns are unexpected and keep you wanting to read more. Although the diction wasn't as polished as some books and the plot didn't flow as smoothly as others, overall Porter House was a good story with plenty of unexpected surprises that keeps the reader's interest.

I was a bit sceptical about if I would like this book before I read it. I am usually into fantasy books with dragons, swords, heroes, and things like that. I must say this book was very good. The plot is great and the ending is awesome. I dont want to give the book away so I wont say much about the story. What I will say is Porter House is well worth your time and money.

I want more of these two characters.

Watching the story unfold I really wanted for there to be an ending that would work out for both characters, but I was pretty certain that it would not be possible.

Watching Cory come to terms with her past, both recent and childhood, was interesting. The remoteness and the snowfall helped to keep her present day problems at bay and gave her the time to heal inside and out.

I recommend this book. There were times that I wished that it moved faster, but I realized at the end that it wouldn't have worked as well if it had.
