5.0 out of 5 stars i'd have to disagree
porterhouse is an amazing musical journey. the 80 minutes may pass quickly, but in retrospect you realize how far you've actually traveled. i highly reccomend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Porter Power House, August 18, 2006

I loved Homegrown, and I love Porterhouse. It's UPbeat, lively, non-stop, and it makes me happy. Load this into your Ipod and go off power-walking!

5.0 out of 5 stars Make My Porterhouse Rare......, March 2, 2006
This review is from: Porterhouse (Audio CD)
The first incredible compilation disc from Steve Porter on Chris Fortier & Neil Kolo's Fade Record label cannot be classified into style, sound or genre. And on this disc, that's a great thing. From the nine original tracks from Porter to the seventeen other tracks chosen from an astonishing 300+ submissions, this album blends every sound imaginable to form a decidingly interesting sound which can only be referred to as PORTERHOUSE.

Since this album features 26 tracks there are no overdrawn bland blends between 10 minute tracks which is a refreshing twist on the incalculable compilation cd's out nowadays that feature endless volume fade cross-overs blending 10 random tracks. Instead, each track selected on this album comes on, punches you in the face, shakes your groin and moves on.

An incredible disc that will change what you expect from any house compilation cd to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars Also disagree, July 28, 2006

I must say, relating Porter's music to Happy Hardcore couldn't be further from the truth...get your genres right buddy.

Although this cd is high-energy and quick-paced, by no means is there a shred of incoherent mixing, it is actually quite the opposite...some of the tighest mixing around, it truly showcases his talent as a dj and producer.

It may not be everyone's taste in music, but PorterHouse has always been known as "the meat of dance music", which, in my opinion, is exactly what this compilation demonstrates. 26 tracks in 80 minutes, quite impressive to me. Well done.

Happy and upbeat are two descriptions other reviewers have mentioned and I agree for the most part. Compared to his awesome and highly recommended earlier mix, Homegrown, there's something missing here. Whereas Homegrown was a simple but serious house journey, this feels more like a lot of different songs jammed together. The transitions between songs are jarring at some points in the mix and the songs themselves are filled with excess noise that heaped on one another get to be a little much. By the time the mix ends your ears will appreciate the silence.

I can't complain too much as I got the mix here on Amazon for a buck. Given a choice, I much prefer Homegrown so check that one out first.

This mix was fraught with potential but ultimately marred by an overly hyper case of attention deficit disorder and a vibe towards mix end which almost smacks of something akin to, dare I say, "Happy Hardcore..."

"Porterhouse" sounds like one big peak-time, 26 track train-wreck medley which lasts a duration of 72 seizure inducing minutes, and which manages to slap the listener in the face every 2-3 minutes (if that) with each subsequent "mini" track. Ministry of Sound is notorious for this type of nerve-jangling mix compilation, cramming as many "big room" tracks as possible onto an 80 minute disc.

Steve Porter, while an amazing producer, needs to leave this style of spastic, incoherent mixing to the likes of DJ Dan and remember that quantity does not necessarily equal quality.
