A Portfolio of Fireplace Ideas,
By ctarkenton@jonescorp.com (Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Portfolio of Fireplace Ideas (Paperback)
I wasn't completely thrilled -- we are building a new house and I was hoping for some really spectacular, innovative fireplace ideas, but found few. Many of the photos are old (60's)very boring and dated, and I couldn't understand why they would even be in the book. There were a few fireplaces that were very nice, and modern, but not enough to buy the book for. Does anyone have a suggestion for a great fireplace book?

More like a catalog,

"A Portfolio of Fireplace Ideas" is mostly pictures of manufactured fireplaces without much mood inspirations or personal touches. The book covers the basics of convection and radiation but does not help with choosing your style and creating a room that works with the fireplace. The variety of fireplaces shown was not even remarkable. I bought the book because I liked one of the pictures previewed; but it wasn't even in the book. I recommend Better Homes and Gardens, "Fireplace Decorating and Planning Ideas".

A Portfolio of Inspiration,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Portfolio of Fireplace Ideas (Paperback)
I bought this book for my husband as a Christmas present two years ago as a motivational tool to get him thinking seriously about having a fireplace installed in our sunroom. We actually used the idea of having a window backdrop for our new propane-gas fireplace. With a direct-vent fireplace and no chimney, we were able to create a frame for the stunning view of our 300 year-old maple in the backyard. The kitchen fireplace photographs were also beautiful and I wish I could have implemented those ideas as well. A beautifully photographed book with many refreshing ideas for fireplace installations.
