5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful, Powerful Story
Denise Turney successfully captured the past, present and future all in one book. Her characters were well developed, and the story line was very touching. The strength of Portia was unbelieveable. She overcame a major obstacle in her life through her faith in God, love for her family, and the strength of her relationship with the man she loved.

3.0 out of 5 stars Timely Topic
This book had an interesting way of examining the topic of one woman's experience with breast cancer. I like the way the author based the book around the main character's love and devotion to her family. However, It would have been nice to have some input from the family and how this impacted them. At times the sentences were choppy and difficult to follow. Some of the...

Portia was about family and the importance of maintaining close family ties. Portia is a story I won't forget!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Novel and Beautifully Written, November 29, 1999

This review is from: Portia (Paperback)
Portia was an enjoyable read. We commend Denise Turney for writing this novel. Denise is a fascinating person and has written a beautiful book base on a women faced with a disease and not knowing whether she will survive. Luckily she had a supportive family and her GOD to put her over the top. When one is face with so many obstacles in their life that's when it is time that they count on those who love them the most which is their family. This is a novel that should not just be reviewed but read with feeling and understanding. We CONGRATULATE Ms Turney for a well written novel. Journey's End gives this one 5 STARS!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Story of Courage in the Face of Breast Cancer! A good read, October 11, 1999
This review is from: Portia (Paperback)
I read Portia in one sitting. I was touched and inspired by this story as I have have a family member who also survived breast cancer. I saw a similarity in Portia's outlook and my family member's in that they both remained positive and in prayer. This book is a testimony to the power of having faith and having people who love you in times of crisis. Breast cancer strikes fear in the heart of many women. This book lets me know that it can be beat with prayer, faith, and love. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to women of all ages. A good read!

I like the way the author based the book around the main character's love and devotion to her family. However, It would have been nice to have some input from the family and how this impacted them. At times the sentences were choppy and difficult to follow. Some of the chapters were confusing as to if we were in the present or if the main character was in the past? Overall it was an interesting book with a popular topic. I look forward to this author's next work....

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything We need..., January 1, 2001
This review is from: Portia (Paperback)
I have always loved the saying "Everything I need is already in me" Not until I read "Portia" did I really understand the true meaning of this statement and being humble.

After being diagnosised with cancer Porita had a long struggle ahead of her. In her couragaeous way she dealt with the cards she had.

Her family and the love of a good man kept her on even ground. Denise Turneys voice in this book had me smiling crying and most of all proud to have gotten the chance to meet Portia. I hope if I ever face a circumstance such as she did that I find all I need in me.
