A tale about the treasures a woman has--heart, soul and mind--and her struggle to keep them afloat. Bonded by the passions and curses that get carried down in families, four generations of women arrive to an island at different times in history. Island life is a fresh start for them each, until they are forced to leave and make choices regarding family loyalties, exciting careers, and love. Each woman must decide whether to pick up the paddles and row out to her own portion of the sea.
Christine Lemmon was born in Chicago, Illinois. When she was eight years old her family moved to Saugatuck, Michigan where together they worked their family businesses. Her schooling was in Holland, Michigan, where she also graduated from Hope College, a private, liberal arts college. She has lived all over the country writing for radio, newspaper, television and magazine.
She currently lives with her husband and three children on Sanibel Island, a subtropical island off Florida's Gulf Coast, which is the setting for her novels. She gets most of her inspiration while biking, kayaking or walking around the island, and watching sunsets with her family, but then she must hold her ideas until night, when her children are sleeping and she can write.
