Executed with incredible detail, these Botanic Garden dinner plates display the pattern’s floral images in graceful variation. Each piece features a different central illustration of a flower surrounded by butterflies on the wing. The vibrant drawings are labeled with the flowers' Latin and common names and bordered with a wreath of laurel leaves on the slanted rim. I have been collecting many different pieces of Portmeirion Botanic Garden since my wedding in 1991. Lots of the pieces were given to me as wedding gifts, and I continue to add to my collection. It is by far my favorite pattern and continues to be used daily. My fine china is still sitting unused! I love to use these dishes year round, especially during the holidays. I have had the dinner plates for at least 5 years and not a single one is chipped. All pieces are extremely durable and are dishwasher and microwave safe. I regularly use my Botanic Garden baking dishes and covered casserole in the oven and on the table. The timeless design blends so well with all of my placemats, linens, other serving pieces and glassware. I use a little fruit bowl each morning for cereal and I always feel happy. I don't think I will ever get tired of this pattern.

First shipment came within the specified time line, but the box was crushed and one plate was broken. Within minutes of my phone call to Amazon (even in the late evening) I had an RMA and printed out the packing slip the next day. They had already shipped the replacement order before I got the damaged goods in the mail at no charge to me (other than the gas to stop at UPS). New shipment arrived in a week. 4 Stars because they did not change the packing materials like I had suggested. Overall, nice service, nice plates.

Portmeirion Botanic Garden Dinner plates:

The newest made series of botanic garden plates (as well as other pieces) are heavier and have a more clear and pronounced graphics which I feel is an improvement over older series of this type. Collectors will find that the new floral graphics will clash with those of the older type only if you look very closely. However, the maker's mark on the back of the pieces has changed dramatically, and does give the impression that the newer plates and pieces are being produced by another manufacturer.
