I have been collecting many different pieces of Portmeirion Botanic Garden since my wedding in 1991. Lots of the pieces were given to me as wedding gifts, and I continue to add to my collection. It is by far my favorite pattern and continues to be used daily. My fine china is still sitting unused! I love to use these dishes year round, especially during the holidays. I have had the dinner plates for at least 5 years and not a single one is chipped. All pieces are extremely durable and are dishwasher and microwave safe. I regularly use my Botanic Garden baking dishes and covered casserole in the oven and on the table. The timeless design blends so well with all of my placemats, linens, other serving pieces and glassware. I use a little fruit bowl each morning for cereal and I always feel happy. I don't think I will ever get tired of this pattern.

First shipment came within the specified time line, but the box was crushed and one plate was broken. Within minutes of my phone call to Amazon (even in the late evening) I had an RMA and printed out the packing slip the next day. They had already shipped the replacement order before I got the damaged goods in the mail at no charge to me (other than the gas to stop at UPS). New shipment arrived in a week. 4 Stars because they did not change the packing materials like I had suggested. Overall, nice service, nice plates.

Portmeirion Botanic Garden Dinner plates:

The newest made series of botanic garden plates (as well as other pieces) are heavier and have a more clear and pronounced graphics which I feel is an improvement over older series of this type. Collectors will find that the new floral graphics will clash with those of the older type only if you look very closely. However, the maker's mark on the back of the pieces has changed dramatically, and does give the impression that the newer plates and pieces are being produced by another manufacturer.

The plates are great. We gave them to our daughter for Christmas. However, the plates were shipped in their
unsheltered box in a bigger box with packing insulation on one end to fill out the box. The box had no
protective insulation on the top or the bottom. One of the plates were broken.
The return department people were very sympathetic and said they would have another set of plates shipped
overnight, with better packaging. The plates arrived the day after Christmas, which was guite quick; however,
they were packaged the same way as the first set! Fortunately, no plates were broken.
The shipping department should be trained better - they should be shown the difference between plates and
books.

This is lovely china. Brings in color to any table. The diversity within the Botanic Garden theme is lovely. I enjoy looking at all the different flower as well as trying to pronounce their Latin names! Great Buy! Much less than the department store cost.

I love the dishes. Portmeirion is great dinnerware. It's sturdy, looks beautiful, dishwasher safe and doesn't scratch. The price at Amazon was a very good deal.

I had already received other pieces of this pattern and only needed the dinner plates. I received them exactly as ordered and they meet my every expectation. They don't scratch when used, are dishwasher and microwave safe. The patterns were all different and are perfect with my other pieces.

I saw this dinnerware at a friends home and had to get a set. It is very sophisticated, but study and works great as an everyday set. The condition and quality are first rate. These are made in Britain (not like some I've read reviews, which say they can come from China. These plates have some heft to them, too!! The price was very competitive. Bon appetit!!

When I first received my dinner plates 2 were broken but Amazon sent out a new order and I got it immediately. I found the return/replacement instructions very easy to follow. Love these beautiful plates and all my other Portmeirion Botanic Garden Ware that is made in Britain. I got rid of all my old plates so I could have nothing but beautiful perfection on my dining table.

I had the same situation, where one plate was crushed. What a shame it is too, because I wonder what will happen to the rest of the plates when I return them. My replacements came packaged the same way, but this time all were in good condition. i ordered the Holly and the Ivey set too earlier, and they came fine -- from Fed Ex, as did my replacement set of Botanicals, but the set of Bo's that had a plate crushed was USPS! I am not even sure why my H&I set came Fed Ex, but I am glad because did not want to wait to use them!

At any rate, these plates feel good in the hand, have nice deep edges/rims to keep food from easily sliding out - a plus for living room eating. The illustrations are very well done too. I wish there were more!

I am into gardening, and it appears that the flowers on the plates are not typical here in the States, but for the peony. No matter, just a tid-bit. Who knows I may be wrong, and living in Maryland, I am only going with what grows in this growing zone.
