This simple, beautiful, and functional place setting is part of an entire tableware and bakeware collection designed by Sophie Conran, an English food writer with her own gourmet pie company. Conran infuses her namesake tableware with a flowing organic nature and tactile expression, as evidenced by the ridges and dipped rims that recall handcrafted pottery. Made of porcelain expressly for Portmeirion, the collection comes in glossy white with select pieces available in cool blue celadon and a creamy biscuit color.

Four pieces make up this individual place setting: an 11-inch dinner plate; 9-inch salad plate; 6-inch cereal bowl; and 12-1/2-ounce mug. Each piece shows the wavy, slightly uneven sides or rims characteristic of this rustic yet modern collection. Lightweight yet incredibly durable and chip-resistant, the porcelain is safe for use in the freezer, microwave, oven, and dishwasher. A full range of serving pieces, bakeware, glassware, and linens is available to complement the dinnerware, a pattern for those who appreciate life's simple pleasures. --Ann Bieri

I mix matched mine with the Celadon and white and they look amazing together.
This Little Book Nerd
They're both rustic and classy, beautiful and simple, not too fussy, and have served me really well.

It gets one star just for the really beatiful design, that I still love even after over two years.

I've had this dinner ware for over a month now. No chipping or cracking. Normal use, dish washer, etc. I learned that porcelain is stronger than stoneware because of vitrification. These dishes are porcelain and have already outlasted the stoneware I had in terms of chipping, etc.

Besides the practical strength, these dishes are rhythmic---the design has flow and rhythm. The color is ethereal---sort of alters one's state of consciousness to use these dishes.

My only problem with them is that the color is such that it is difficult for me to choose tablecloths other than white or cream--but that is my failure of imagination, not the dishes. The dishes are inspired. And they do come in other colors, including white. But that lovely celadon blue...ahhh.

I've had these dishes for two years now and they are holding up well. I first saw them when anthropologie was selling the pitchers and mugs and was thrilled to find out that there was a whole line of coordinating pieces. Since then, I've accumulated about 8 places settings in white, 4 in blue, and 2 in biscuit, as well as 2 salad bowls (med and small), a small oval platter, roasting dish, lasagna baker, med and small pitchers, the round platter, pouring bowl, teapot and creamer, creme brulee dishes, espresso cups, highball glasses, and soup bowls. I LOVE the way everything looks in my red and white kitchen (red walls, white cabinets). They also look stunning with iittala Kartio Set of Two Glass Tumblers in the water green and turquoise shades.

I use all of my dishes regularly, as everyday dishes, and they're still in nearly perfect condition except for one chip in the rim of biscuit-colored cereal bowl, but considering that I stack my bowls in the cabinet and am not always gentle in putting them away, I think those are pretty good odds. I do not stack mugs and rims DO chip from stacking so if you're careful there, they should be fine.

The blue shade is my favorite but food looks amazing against the white dishes. I'm not crazy about the biscuit but they all work well together and I get lots of compliments on these. They're classic but with a twist, made of delicate porcelain but durable, and really versatile. I wanted porcelain dishes, not stoneware, and I wanted them to be dishwasher and microwave safe. These go beyond and are also oven and freezer safe!

It was love at first sight, this dih and me were made for each other - at least that's what I thought. But after having this dinnerware in my everyday use for over two years now, I have to say , I am sooo dissapointed by the poor quality.

It turned out to be not as strong as stated at all. This dinnerware grows brittly with time. In the first year, everything was just fine. But after that time of period, the pieces of this dinnerware really got ugly by:

-looses it's shiny surface
-very visible scratches even in the bowls which are just use with spoons ( and absolutely no knifes)
-in the china itselfs appear rosty stains, they developed over time, like something getting washed out
-the china does crack into pieces when used in a regular oven by 350°F, it obviously looses it's heat resistance

Needless to say that we are very dissapointed, since we paid good money for this dinnerware, just to find out that it is not at all useful.

It gets one star just for the really beatiful design, that I still love even after over two years. But I will not buy another single piece. Wouldn't even take it for free, because it is not fun when you're making a casserole and the dish cracks into two pieces in the oven...

Each place setting is beautiful. I gave these as a Christmas gift. The celadon is very fresh looking and sets off a coastal color scheme in the home. The unique curves of the dishes give them a hand-thrown pottery appearance. A few serving pieces in both celadon and white have also been added and receive compliments when guests are enjoying dinner.

Registered for these dishes for our wedding. We received them about about a week ago and were very happy looks wise. Unfortunately it took one dinner of a baked potato and salad to discover these dishes scratch from very little activity. Both plates that we used have grey scratches from our utensils and we were not using anything sharp nor were we pushing hard. I can only imagine what these will be like after a few months, or years of use! And forget ever using a steak knife on them.
I gave them 2 stars because I can't say for sure what they will be like after more use, but I can extrapolate from what they look like after one light use and be fairly certain they will look pretty bad in a few months to a year.
Very disappointed.

I love these dishes! Can be used everyday or just for a fancy dinner. I mix matched mine with the Celadon and white and they look amazing together. I've had the white ones for 3 years now and have yet to find a complaint on them. Absolute love at first sight!
