This woman is absolutely the best art instructor I have encountered, in person or on video. Her methods are astounding--I was amazed at the improvement I made just following along with the video ONE time. (And I hadn't even attempted drawing in over 20 years and even before that I wasn't professional nor had I taken any instruction) In the past I only sketched for fun many years ago, but never knew the correct methods for portraiture. I can't find enough superlatives to critique her technique. She has the most exacting and simple ways to accomplish so much. She has an amzing ability to break everything down and get the point across immediately. If you've always wanted to do portrait drawing but couldn't quite get it together, this is the video for you and the ONLY one. It's for the novice and also for one with some experience, but who needs to brush up on their skills and the techniques that make it all come together for a more professional look. Her instruction is explicit and direct. You will find yourself improving immediately because everything becomes crystal clear. She has you do various parts of the face before you try to put it all together and her instruction on shading and shadows left me amazed. You draw along with the video and wind up with a portrait that actually looks professional at the end. I can only hope she will come out with a figure drawing video and perhaps one on beginning painting too. She could make an artist out of anyone.

Johnnie Liliedahl is an exceptional drawing teacher. She demonstrates portrait drawing in a clear, organized manner. She gives the viewer a good foundation as she presents the steps for various facial views: frontal, profile, and three quarter. I recommend this video for beginners and intermediate. It will motivate and open doors to the enjoyment of the art of portraiture.
I have one complaint. The complaint is not in content,but the delivery system. To purchase the lessons means a video purchase. I wish the manufacturers would put this in a dvd format. I almost did not purchase this item because of the video format, however, I am glad that I did because of Ms. Liliedahl's superior instruction.
