1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Well written and interesting. However, as I read this book about the Shroud, I am continually disappointed that there are no of images of the actual shroud itself. I find myself wishing I could look at the area of the image the author is talking about. Of the 16 pages of color plates, only one contained an actual shroud image! And that only of the face (a duplicate of...

5.0 out of 5 stars A highly documented analysis of the history and properties of the shroud of Turin, June 7, 2006
The significantly revised and updated second edition of Portrait Of Jesus: The Shroud Of Turin In Science And History by author and lecturer Frank C. Tribbe is a highly documented analysis of the history and properties of the shroud of Turin. Addressing all of the controversies associated with the Shroud's history and historical significance, Tribbe draws upon years of careful study and exhaustive research carefully distinguishing documented facts and personal views and speculative theories. Informed and informative, nicely illustrated and inherently entertaining, the Portrait Of Jesus is very strongly recommended reading, especially for the non-specialist general reader with an interest in what is arguably one of the most important, famous, and controversial historical relics of Christianity.

Well written and interesting. However, as I read this book about the Shroud, I am continually disappointed that there are no of images of the actual shroud itself. I find myself wishing I could look at the area of the image the author is talking about. Of the 16 pages of color plates, only one contained an actual shroud image! And that only of the face (a duplicate of the front cover.) The other color plates are of the scientists and inspired artwork. There are other images of sections of the shroud in the book but only black and white low resolution. If you want views of the shroud, you won't find them here. A book about such a unique image that calls itself "illustrated" should have actual images to view!
