Early Wisconsin Social History,
By Nino Brown "reader" (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Portrait of the Past: A Photographic Journey Through Wisconsin, 1865-1920 (Paperback)
This book provides a collection of photographs dating from the first half of Wisconsin's statehood, featuring mostly common folks going about their everyday business. While this book is not comprehensive in that not every facet of Wisconsin's history is featured, we are given a thoughtful and interesting sample - logs being run upriver, newly-built homes of the first homesteaders, and so forth. Most of the photographs, moreover, are of impressive quality considering their age - one can often pick out many interesting details aside from the subject of the photographs. In sum, a very nice resource for general background in Wisconsin social history.
