From Publishers Weekly
A thin album of 33 black-and-white photos, this portrays the Royal dancers posing disingenuously in street and practice clothes and taking calculated flights, fully costumed, on stage. Male dancer Jay Jolley clasps a flower and gazes mistily into the distance; gymnastic Wayne Eagling exults in his knotty calf muscles; Bryony Brind hoists her leg with grim deliberation. In group portraits, dancers are all smiles--except for the occasional female tableau, where long-limbed women strike a wistfully demure note. Though marginally useful as a document of dancers in the company, this snippet by British photographer Crickmay does not begin to provide a view of the Royal Ballet's repertoire, history or esthetic range. Nor does Crickmay attempt to characterize the dancers, choreographers or administrators he depicts; all perch and strut within the bland frame of his artless camera lens.
