This review is from: Portraits Of Basques In The New World (The Basque Series) (Hardcover)
Excellent, detailed, accurate history of Basques in CA & the western US from the time of early Spanish exploration forward !!

Accurate vignets of the personal accounts of the lives of many very famous historical figures and their people. From the Basque family of Juan Baptista De Anza to the many many French and Spanish Basques that followed to the new world.

An EXCELLENT accurate new look at the settlement and day-to-day lives of the courageous Basques who settled into the west and San Francisco, Sierra Nevadas, Nevada and Arizona. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of the cattle drives up the San Juaquin Valley to the East Bay and across to the "cattle wharfs" in Butchertown's wholesale slaughterhouses. It fills in and pulls together much of the history that I've learned about my own family in the early Butchertown days.

A MUST-READ !
