Great ideas on using natural light,

This review is from: Portraits Unplugged with Bobbi Lane DVD (Electronics)
This is a good DVD on using natural lighting to shoot portraits. I have taken her online class but I think this is better because you can actually see how she sets everything up such as the positon of her subject, reflectors, etc. While she does use a meter and other equipment you don't need it to put her ideas to use. You can get by with the meter in your camera and just bracket or take a couple of extra shots with slight adjustment. As for a reflector a white sheet of cardboard is a great start. In other words, you do not have to buy extra equipment to make use of the excellent techniques in this DVD.Following her techiniques you will be extremely pleased to see how well you can improve your portraits! There are two downsides to this DVD. It can be a bit corny at times maybe even a bit amatuer (casual?). It also could be considered a promotional DVD with the ads for the equipment used. For that I wouldn't pay full price. But it doesn't take away from the valuable information she presents in this DVD. If you really want to improve your portraits she is one to learn from.

The Mistress of Light shares her secrets,

I took Bobbi Lane's Introduction to Portraits class at the Maine Media Workshops last summer and was blown away. I haven't learned so much in one week since I was cramming for the bar exam. This excellent DVD covers the material on natural light portraits from the workshop plus a little more. It reinforced what she taught us and added detail I did not grasp the first time around. The style of the DVD is informal, practical and easy to follow. It does presume a little bit of technical knowledge: for example, that you can use a light meter and know a soft box from your elbow. People who want to take great pictures of people will enjoy this very much. Highly recommended.

I have watched the video several times and planned to take Bobbi's class online. Wow! The video is full of great information especially if you are a beginner like me. Bobbi Lane keeps it very simple and easy to understand. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to take photographs using natural light.

Excellent.,

This is a great DVD for photographers at any level. Bobbi is not only an accomplished photographer, but an inspiring instructor as well. This DVD is all about the fundamentals of using and modifying natural light. The examples setups are applicable to everyday situations (window light, diffusion in direct sun, using reflectors for fill, etc) and Bobbi's explanations are clear and concise. And the modifiers demonstrated in the DVD are basic and affordable - you could probably make most of them yourself. I am a big fan of keeping it simple - but don't dismiss the simplicity of these lessons - these are the core techniques that you will build on and go back to again and again.
