Portsmouth Furniture - rather expensive,
This review is from: Portsmouth Furniture: Masterworks from the New Hampshire Seacoast (Paperback)
Portsmouth Furniture: Masterworks from the New Hampshire Seacoast is another fabulous publication by SPINEA (Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities) as it was known when the book was published and now goes by Historic New England. The book's editor, Brock Jobe was a currator for Historic New England and is an expert in his field. The information provided on the furniture and the cabinet makers of this region is well researched from original historical records. Pictures of each piece of furniture is accompanied by well documented descriptions of the style and cabinet maker who produced it. Some of the furniture are shown in color. Much of the furniture described in this book is in the hands of Portsmouth, NH area museums and historic houses giving the reader the opportunity to view the furniture in it's original historical locale. If you find the asking price for this used book to be excessive - three times the original list price - do what I did and check it out of the library. Your local library will locate it with inter-library loan.
