A soundtrack that is both relaxing and thrilling all at the sametime,

This soundtrack to the new remake of the Adventure film, Poseidon features songs from pop artist Fergie and suspensful as well as, breathtaking orchestra themes from composer Klaus Badelt. After seeing the film for the first time, the action sequences not only got my heart racing but the score to the film was very good and after hearing the songs in the movie I just had to get the soundrack. For me listening to the soundtrack was a whole new experience. Especially, when you combine the talents of a beautiful singer from the film and the orchestra score of Klaus Badelt it makes for a very engaging soundrack. I became intrigued by Badelt's work after listening to his score from the thriller spy film, "The Recruit" where there's a lot of techno spy music that runs through the core of the film. Here in Poseidon it's a mix of the music from films like the "Titanic" and "The Perfect Storm" where he incorperates a mix of beautiful melodies and haunting pulse pounding rhythms where you are thrown into the very frightening and intense life and death scenerios that the actors experienced while making the film. Interestingly enough, it was Wolfgang Petersen who directed Poseidon and you might recall that he also directed "The Perfect Storm" in 2000. For me personally, it would have been nice if he could have shown an exciting rescue scene toward the end where you see the PJs pulling the survivors out of the water like he did in "The Perfect Storm" but that's another story. In all, this soundtrack is definitely worth a look if you're a fan of adventure films like "The Perfect Storm" or "the Poseidon Adventure".

Klaus Badelt Delivers An Incredible Action Score, But It Becomes Too Overblown At Times,

As a Hans Zimmer fan I usually end up liking the composers that are trained by him. Klaus Badelt is a great composer, and he does amazing action scores. His latest film is Wolfgang Petersen's Poseidon. I was dissapointed by the film, it was truly a mess of a movie. However, I really enjoyed his score to the film.
The first track of score on the CD is titled "The Poseidon" and is the cue played to the opening credits and the large scale 360 degree shot of the ship at the beginning of the film. It's a great piece of music, and it sets the right tone. Other highlights of the album are tracks 5, 10, and 11. It's a full-blown digitally synthesized score with tons of pulse-pounding percussion. The only flaw of the score in my opinion is that it gets too loud and too overbearing. Otherwise it's a great score that fans of Klaus Badelt and fans of Media Ventures should enjoy. I was dissapointed that we only got 30 minutes or so of score and instead got some stupid songs by Fergie, but at least we got a score release this time since Badelt didn't get score releases for 16 Blocks and Ultraviolet.

Let me begin by saying this- the magnificent Sir Bennet Pomerantz of AUDIOWORLD is simply wrong about this CD. Sure, it may not be the best movie soundtrack ever made- for that honor I highly recommend the soundtrack of "Battle Royale". But it's certainly above-average, as is the film itself. And I strongly disagree with the merciless slamming "Poseidon" has taken from critics ever since it came out. The sole reason for this hatred, it seems, is that "The Poseidon Adventure" was so much better. I find that point highly debatable. The scene where the ship capsizes, for example. The exterior shots in the older film make it clear the ship is a model, and inside it takes what seems like long enough to write the entire bloody works of Shakespeare for the rooms to finally become entirely upside-down. "Poseidon" has its predecessor beat there, for sure. Plus, has anyone *seen* the feature ship in this movie? It's bigger than the Queen Mary 2, and almost certainly more expensive.
Anyway. The soundtrack is fairly short- 11 songs altogether. Two are by the well-known "Fergie", who appears in the film as "Gloria" to sing them. One is an instrumental done by Federico Aubele, and the other eight are by Klaus Badelt. To say that man is talented would be a gross understatement. He and Hans Zimmer are simply brilliant in their work. The music is appropriate and well-placed all through the film, and my particular favorites were "The Poseidon", which we hear in the film's superb opening scene, and "Escape", which plays as the grand cruise ship- or was it an ocean liner?- rights herself and goes under, with rescue by air and sea arriving just after that. Overall, a very well-done and enjoyable soundtrack, and one I highly recommend to any of those select few out there who, like me, actually enjoyed the film this soundtrack accompanies.
