A soundtrack that is both relaxing and thrilling all at the sametime,

This soundtrack to the new remake of the Adventure film, Poseidon features songs from pop artist Fergie and suspensful as well as, breathtaking orchestra themes from composer Klaus Badelt. After seeing the film for the first time, the action sequences not only got my heart racing but the score to the film was very good and after hearing the songs in the movie I just had to get the soundrack. For me listening to the soundtrack was a whole new experience. Especially, when you combine the talents of a beautiful singer from the film and the orchestra score of Klaus Badelt it makes for a very engaging soundrack. I became intrigued by Badelt's work after listening to his score from the thriller spy film, "The Recruit" where there's a lot of techno spy music that runs through the core of the film. Here in Poseidon it's a mix of the music from films like the "Titanic" and "The Perfect Storm" where he incorperates a mix of beautiful melodies and haunting pulse pounding rhythms where you are thrown into the very frightening and intense life and death scenerios that the actors experienced while making the film. Interestingly enough, it was Wolfgang Petersen who directed Poseidon and you might recall that he also directed "The Perfect Storm" in 2000. For me personally, it would have been nice if he could have shown an exciting rescue scene toward the end where you see the PJs pulling the survivors out of the water like he did in "The Perfect Storm" but that's another story. In all, this soundtrack is definitely worth a look if you're a fan of adventure films like "The Perfect Storm" or "the Poseidon Adventure".

Klaus Badelt Delivers An Incredible Action Score, But It Becomes Too Overblown At Times,

As a Hans Zimmer fan I usually end up liking the composers that are trained by him. Klaus Badelt is a great composer, and he does amazing action scores. His latest film is Wolfgang Petersen's Poseidon. I was dissapointed by the film, it was truly a mess of a movie. However, I really enjoyed his score to the film.
The first track of score on the CD is titled "The Poseidon" and is the cue played to the opening credits and the large scale 360 degree shot of the ship at the beginning of the film. It's a great piece of music, and it sets the right tone. Other highlights of the album are tracks 5, 10, and 11. It's a full-blown digitally synthesized score with tons of pulse-pounding percussion. The only flaw of the score in my opinion is that it gets too loud and too overbearing. Otherwise it's a great score that fans of Klaus Badelt and fans of Media Ventures should enjoy. I was dissapointed that we only got 30 minutes or so of score and instead got some stupid songs by Fergie, but at least we got a score release this time since Badelt didn't get score releases for 16 Blocks and Ultraviolet.

A solid, well-made soundtrack.,

Let me begin by saying this- the magnificent Sir Bennet Pomerantz of AUDIOWORLD is simply wrong about this CD. Sure, it may not be the best movie soundtrack ever made- for that honor I highly recommend the soundtrack of "Battle Royale". But it's certainly above-average, as is the film itself. And I strongly disagree with the merciless slamming "Poseidon" has taken from critics ever since it came out. The sole reason for this hatred, it seems, is that "The Poseidon Adventure" was so much better. I find that point highly debatable. The scene where the ship capsizes, for example. The exterior shots in the older film make it clear the ship is a model, and inside it takes what seems like long enough to write the entire bloody works of Shakespeare for the rooms to finally become entirely upside-down. "Poseidon" has its predecessor beat there, for sure. Plus, has anyone *seen* the feature ship in this movie? It's bigger than the Queen Mary 2, and almost certainly more expensive.
Anyway. The soundtrack is fairly short- 11 songs altogether. Two are by the well-known "Fergie", who appears in the film as "Gloria" to sing them. One is an instrumental done by Federico Aubele, and the other eight are by Klaus Badelt. To say that man is talented would be a gross understatement. He and Hans Zimmer are simply brilliant in their work. The music is appropriate and well-placed all through the film, and my particular favorites were "The Poseidon", which we hear in the film's superb opening scene, and "Escape", which plays as the grand cruise ship- or was it an ocean liner?- rights herself and goes under, with rescue by air and sea arriving just after that. Overall, a very well-done and enjoyable soundtrack, and one I highly recommend to any of those select few out there who, like me, actually enjoyed the film this soundtrack accompanies.

Awesome CD!,

I dont get it-whats with these negative reviews? This cd is great! I ordered it 2 months ago and have listened to it many times. Some songs are very exciting, and "Escape" is so beautiful, as is "wont let you fall" by Fergie.
I highly recommend this cd.

I love Klaus Badelt's music after I discovered him for the score of Pirates of the Carribean.
The only good cuts on this CD however are #4 and #11. The other cuts were worthlessly used up by someone named Fergie whose music I'll never buy. The other cuts are unfortunately the composer dramatizing action with music that always turns out to be just noise. Thomas Newton Howard and John Williams, two of my favorites, also do this. I don't think it's their idea; I truly think it's the director and producers who may see a movie in trouble and are trying to get an effect that their story-telling cannot. James Horner is best with action as he goes the opposite way and makes the music slow and quiet (i.e. the car chase scene in "A Beautiful Mind.") However, these two cuts are quite beautiful, but very, very short. I'm thinking of taping the end title music off of a DVD as that music is much longer.

Can we please have first an acess to listen to some samples to The Poseidon Soundtrack? Cause we think it's a very good score, so we can be sure of what we're gonna buy. Thank you!

Too Watered Down for My Tastes,

From the openning cut by Fergie (which drones so bad) to the final notes of the CD, i felt that sinking feeling...and there's got to be "a morning after".
Many have panned the film and I agree with them. However the score does not help with many assessment of the film. The 40 minutes score presented on this cd are so water-logged I am still trying to get the water outta of ears. Klaus Badelt tried too hard to make a Titanic outta this sinking ship. The horns seems no muted like they are underwater..too much tuba involvement this combined with Bass oboes i think it dont work here, you need more music for action and not the sea. The strings section try to give a Staccato feeling for the action and it misses. For a good example of this action feeling, you need to get the Firm soundtrack to see it. The best cut on the whole sounding is "drowning" (YES, I am serious of the name of the cut!). Which is also what I suggest you should do with this CD if you buy it Bennet Pomerantz, Audioworld

Awesome score, just not enough of it here,

Once again, as with 'Pirates of the Caribbean', Klaus Badelt has written an awesome action score for Wolfgang Petersen's 'Poseidon'. The only problem with it is that there is considerably less of the score than I would have liked to see. The movie is about 90 minutes long, so where is the rest of that score? The actual CD is only about 40 minutes long and 3 of those songs are from the party scene. I expected those songs to be included but the score is what I'd liked to have seen more of. Having said that, Badelt's work is well tuned to the events in the movie - sharp percussion punctuating the score as the ship is rolled upside down by the rogue wave, and brass crescendos as the survivors make breakthroughs in their attempts to escape. Brass & strings also portray the grand ship 'Poseidon', as it glides along the water in the opening sequence - an apparent mastery of engineering & technology. Highly recommended!

Well Done Mr. Badelt,
This review is from: Poseidon (Audio CD)
This score is a complete massage for the ears. The sounds are straightforward, pure, and overall perfect for the genre. I would caution the classical listener that this score is very syncopated rythmically, and the straight orchestral cues are few and far between... however, to the score listener, I don't thinkg anyone will complain, as Badelt manages to merge classical music with thumping percussion and synths with relative ease.
Overall, a great listen.

I loved the movie and I loved the music. The song from Fergie, "Won't Let You Fall" gets a 10 and the cuts, "The Poseidon" and "Escape" are wonderful. A must have for any Poseidon fan :)
