Book Description

Positive Discipline April 23, 2002
A Biblical Approach to Raising a Respectful, Responsible, and Capable Child
"Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it." —Proverbs 22:6. As Christian parents, you know you need to train your child, yet you probably wonder just how you can accomplish the fulfillment of this Scripture. What kind of parenting ensures that your child will become a responsible, capable adult who can choose to love and follow God for life? Positive Discipline in the Christian Home clarifies how the Bible and the time-proven skills of Positive Discipline can work together.

Using stories and passages from the Bible as well as real-life stories from families using these principles, this nondenominational book will show you how to:
·Teach your children life skills and values
·Set appropriate boundaries with your children
·Understand and respond to misbehavior with loving guidance
·Follow through with kindness and firmness
·And much more!
"Parents are God's personal representatives on earth to give each child a special blessing and stamp of approval. This book empowers you to do just that!"
Tim Timmons, author of Roadmap to RICHE$, Los Angeles talk-show host, and pastor of New Community Church

"A practical guide for every loving parent. What a great job the authors have done to make the seemingly complex job of being a parent a lot simpler."
Dr. Kevin Leman, author of Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours and host of RealFAMILIES.com

I have EVERY parenting book under the sun, and didn't plan on buying this one until I stumbled over it in a quaint Park City, Utah bookshop. This is the only great BIBLICALLY based book I have ever seen to guide Christian ( and all) parents in raising children WELL with out spanking ( there is scripture to back it up gals). I wish every pastor, and every family could own this book and read it- it works, and it is based on solid biblical teaching without the issues of corporal punishment. Don't hesitate- you'll buy extra copies to give to your friends!

5.0 out of 5 stars More than scripture sprinkled into a book, April 24, 2009
This review is from: Positive Discipline in the Christian Home: Using the Bible to Develop Character and Strengthen Moral Values (Paperback)
[...]
A Biblical approach to raising a respectful, responsible, and capable child. This is more than a few Scriptures sprinkled through a new-age parenting book. Positive Discipline was modeled by Christ and is not a new "invention". While there may be more understanding today of the long-term benefits of this style of parenting it does not mean that someone made it up yesterday. The book does an excellent job of helping parents communicate with children and create a strong family bond.
This is a valuable tool for those who are tired of being inundated with "spare the rod" mentality.
Chapters include:
What is Discipline?
The Challenge of Christian Parenting
Family Atmosphere: The Foundation
The Scriptural Backbone of Positive Discipline
"But the Lord Looks at the Heart": Getting into Your Child's World
What Does Birth Order Have to Do with This?
The Four Goals of Misbehavior: Why Do Kids Do What They Do?
Positive Discipline Tools: What's in Your Parenting Tool Kit?
The Magic of Encouragement
"A Gentle Answer Turns Away Wrath": Understanding Feelings and Cummuncations
Family Meetings
Celebrating the Family

3.0 out of 5 stars a Christian twist on popular discipline?, October 9, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Positive Discipline in the Christian Home: Using the Bible to Develop Character and Strengthen Moral Values (Paperback)
I had seen Positive Discipline in the library and read it. I checked further into their product line and found this book. It has Bible verses throughout to appeal to the Christian parent, but I wondered how much of it was popular thought fitted to Christianity. Still undecided. Of many of the Christian parenting books I've read, this one's tips and suggestions didn't stay with me. I'll give it a second read, but it's not my go-to book when I need help.
