Unique Reference Work Explores Measurement of Human Strengths,
This review is from: Positive Psychological Assessment: A Handbook of Models and Measures (Hardcover)
I approached this book as a possible resource for our work in organizational surveys, tests, and assessments. It is a comprehensive work that explains the challenges of measuring human strengths, healthy processes and human fulfillment. The editors say their book was written to provide a positive alternative to descriptions of psychosocial and environmental disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual--widely known as DSM-IV. As such, it is not directly a work on industrial psychology. However, we found much here for consideration. Some of the articles directly address career and workplace issues, such as "Measuring Career Self-Efficacy: Promoting Confidence and Happiness at Work" and "Vocational Psychology Assessment: Positive Human Characteristics Leading to Positive Work Outcomes." In a broader sense, however, the book brings together massive amounts of research on the problems and possibilities of assessing what can go right with people and within organizations.
Highly recommended as scholarly reference material.

This review is from: Positive Psychological Assessment: A Handbook of Models and Measures (Hardcover)
I use this book in teaching INDIVIDUAL and Psychological Assessments with my Graduate students and I believe that this is an excellent compliment to our professional library. It is a great compliment to the traditional texts that we use more often. It gives an alternative spin to psychological assessments in our days of Managed Care. I highly recommend it.
