Editorial Reviews

Review

"There are three legs in creating success: confidence, passion, and risk taking. Positive Risk delivers realistic, doable strategies that work today. Stoker's ideas will open your eyes, enthuse your spirit, and get you back on track.  Positive Risk is a keeper for both personal and professional libraries."
--Dr. Judith Briles, author, The Confidence Factor

"Colorado author Barbara Stoker is a master at risk-taking."
--Denver Business Journal

From the Inside Flap

Author and lifelong risk taker, Barbara Stoker was a high-profile executive at several Fortune 500 corporations, raised three sons as a single mom, and is an avid paraglider and ice and mountain climber. While most of us will never face the terror Barbara experienced while navigating an overhang at two hundred feet, we all need to learn to take the risks that will ultimately lead to our success.

In Positive Risk, Barbara Stoker weaves her fascinating professional and personal stories with those of other dynamic women. These inspirational (and informative) stories provide women with the proven strategies, techniques, and tools for taking the intelligent risks necessary for growth and success. Positive Risk explores Stoker's four basic strategies for success: Choose Your Mountain, Plan Your Route, Build Your Courage, and Climb Strong. The book also includes the twelve critical questions that every woman should ask before she takes a risk.

Positive Risk offers a down-to-earth guide that shows how to develop the confidence women need to keep an open mind, simplify risk, trust their intuition, stay curious, and find the wisdom in every situation. Women will discover practical ways to tap into their passion and create their own opportunities. Stoker's commonsense approach is designed to help women understand the difference between setting themselves up for success and setting themselves up not to fail.

This review is from: Positive Risk: How Smart Women Use Passion to Break Through Their Fears (Hardcover)
Positive Risk is an essential handbook for life and work for anyone with a dream. With the perfect balance of advice and stories, the author shows how to define one's goal (or choosing your mountain as she calls it), determine the best way to tackle it, find your supporters, assess the risks, and celebrate the rewards along the way. Positive Risk contains gems of wisdom, inspiration, and practical advice that I have literally begun to write down on my white board by my desk. Her theme "Climb Strong" has enlivened my dream and allowed me to recommit to my goals. Thank you, Barbara, for the courage to share your journey and for the commitment to helping women like me embrace the risks we face for the rewards we desire.
