3.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners, a bit basic for the more involved
This is a great book to anyone who has little knowledge about clicker training and/or little knowledge about showing dogs. It is simple nicely covering the basics of how to get your dog to perform for you in the conformation ring with confidence and joy.

I, however, am not a novice in neither clicker training nor showing and was expecting little more advanced...

Those of you like me with a mixed breed dog, this book is also for you, to show in a Mixed Breed dog show.

Her book is clearly written, easy to follow and really is a step by step method to help anyone, from beginner on up - to win at dog shows.

Plus, your dog(s) will be happier if you use these steps!

This is a Really good instruction manual for solving problems associated with trainging and showing your "Show Dog". Shows situations you might be having and correcting these problems, which alot of these type of books do not address..Really worth the money and time to read..Great author and teacher.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners, a bit basic for the more involved, January 20, 2012

This is a great book to anyone who has little knowledge about clicker training and/or little knowledge about showing dogs. It is simple nicely covering the basics of how to get your dog to perform for you in the conformation ring with confidence and joy.

I, however, am not a novice in neither clicker training nor showing and was expecting little more advanced tips that I, unfortunately, did not find. I have specific problems (associated with my dogs amazing eye contact and not being able to focus forward like the puppy on the cover of the book) and I did not get any information on that.

It will be a good book to lend out to puppy owners or friends who are thinking of showing their dog but I have to admit that I was expecting a little more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally - a clicker training book for conformation, June 13, 2008

It's hard to know how the author got so much information into a slender volume. I knew a bit about clicker training and a bit about conformation but never felt confident or natural with either. The author does a great job of explaining how to train to show and how to actually show all based on positive training. Five clicks on the clicker from me.

2.0 out of 5 stars For beginners in dog training very boring., March 28, 2009
This review is from: Positive Training for Show Dogs: Building a Relationship for Success (Paperback)
I have been training dogs over ten years now but I have never had a show dog so I decided to buy a few books at amazon. I found this book
Positive Training for Show Dogs: Building a Relationship for Success by Vicki Ronchette

This book is ok , I like how the author uses clicker training with dog showing ( never thought to use the two , then again never had a show dog lol) I think the book could have been better. She focuses on pre clicker training etc.. I felt this book was for people who do no know anything about dog training/clicker training. There where only 2 sections out of the book useful Which is the stacking and gating. It was also boring to me since I am a dog trainer already most of the stuff I knew already. Again its neat she uses clicker training to train the dogs for show my dog is already doing better with the 2 sections that where useful to me.

I have bought another handling book called new secrets of successful show dog handling by peter green & mario migliorini. I have skimmed through the book and this book is WAY better than Vicki's book. If you combined these two books you will have the best dog handling book ever lol.

I decided to give this book 2 stars because only 2 sections out of the book where useful. I like books that are useful from page one to the end sorry Vicki you need to make a more intermediate book.
