The concept of positive thinking is certainly nothing new, but O'Brien's take on it seems to be. Her book is about power of positive thinking in conjunction with confident action. Using scientific and anecdotal evidence, personal experience, and quotes, O'Brien illustrates how anyone can change their attitude to change their life. Written in a conversational tone, the author gives the reader specific ways to transform their negative thoughts into positive ones without falling into the habit of "wishful thinking." She explains that goal setting and prioritizing are essential and mistakes and setbacks are inevitable, but far from reasons to give up on your desires. In addition, O'Brien looks at this transformation as creating a new habit and in order for your actions to become habits, you must do them every day for 21 days. In this age of "I want it, I deserve it, so it should be mine," this book is a refreshing and inspiring change of pace. You CAN achieve anything you want, but it requires both positive thinking AND confident action.

A Positive you transforms your thinking from a negative to positive. This book can stop you from being a pessimist into an optimist. A positive you explains that in order to change your life, you need to change your thoughts. This book tells you to stop brooding over the major problems in your life and find ways to solve them through positive thinking. The methods used in this book have been used by rich successful, famous people for years. These methods have been kept secret for many years. Now these secrets are passed on to the reading public.

This is a great book for those seeking to change their negative outlook on life! It's brief, the prose is accessible, and the suggestions are simple, easily applied, and timeless. I found the chapter on changing from stubborn negative to positive thoughts particularly helpful.

I received A Positive You as a free giveaway through Empowerment Nation Reviewers Club.

I admit that when I first chose this book, I was extremely skeptical, yet hopeful at the same time. I read The Secret by Rhonda Byrne and was deeply disappointed. What separates this book from The Secret is that it points out that even with positive thinking, you will still experience trials and tribulations. But, positive thinking will help you survive these ordeals better. The Secret basically says that if the expected outcome doesn't occur, you didn't really believe it in the first place. Pure nonsense! Life cannot and will not be perfect, but your outlook on life will definitely guide you to a better, more stress-free life.

The quiz in chapter one was helpful and certainly solidified what I already knew. I am a pessimist!!!! As a scientist, I thought it interesting that science doesn't give much merit to positive thinking because the evidence is not verifiable. However, science is starting to change its view. I really enjoyed the section on how light is a wave or particle depending on whether you are viewing it or not. If we can affect the character of light, then we most certainly can help guide events and situations with our conscious behavior.

I truly like the realistic ideas in this book. For example, the idea that positive thinking can improve health or the quality of life, except in the case of cancer, which is very complex. But, positive outlooks can make cancer treatments and therapies work better. This is more believable than saying that someone's cancer wasn't cured because they didn't really believe it would be. No method is 100%, but positive thoughts can make life a lot easier.

I was honoured and delighted to be asked to review this book. I have come across and read so many "self-improvement" books and I have found them frustrating because I never actually got instructions as to how I should go about changing my thinking or where I should start. Yes, they gave you suggestions that you should change your thinking to be more positive, use affirmations etc. and do things differently but never the actual how.

Refreshing to read Elizabeth's book and find that she does actually give you step-by-step suggestions on how you could change your thinking to be more positive and therefore, improve your outlook and approach to life.

Not everything that happens to you is bad, even if it seems to be. I have learned that everything happens for a reason and it is our perceptions/thinking/approach that make(s) it bad or otherwise. This book by Elizabeth O'Brien has really put it into perspective; I have found it to be a real step-by-step instruction book, so much so that I found myself doing the exercises she has included.

A very easy to read and understand book which gives practical advice on improving your attitude and approach to life through changing your thinking. Applying just a little of what I have read has already helped control my stresses and anxiety about some current situations. I would recommend it for anyone, in particular, for those of us who need a little more guidance on the path to `betterment'.

Well worth the purchase (at $0.99 it is a steal!) for its ease of reading and very practical advice.

I very much appreciated the opportunity to read this book.
