A Great Band...., September 24, 2008

...that never quite got its due, Sneaky Feelings were generally overshadowed by their compatriots The Chills, The Verlaines, and Straitjacket Fits, who all achieved some level of success outside their native New Zealand. However, this well-chosen compilation confirms that the Sneakies were pretty handy with a pop tune, with a formula that included some 60's rock jangle, delicate melodies, and some lyrical ambition. Gems like the swirling "Throwing Stones," the earnest "Husband House" and the soulful "All You've Done" are all here, as well as a generous selection of choice tracks from their three full-length albums and numerous singles and EP's. Fans of the Byrds, Zombies, Elvis Costello, Squeeze, Belle & Sebastian, and Guster should enjoy this, as well as anyone interested in some under-the-radar Kiwi rock.
