5.0 out of 5 stars sXe kids can be FUNNY!, February 2, 2003

Alright, this album is not for everyone. I'm sXe, vegetarian, positive, etc etc. I fit the hardcore kid stereotype, with the exception of not being a jock with a ton of tattoos (that comes later). I don't want to listen to a bunch of guys showing off on their guitars. Keep it simple. Keep it fast. Oh yeah, and make sure you have a sense of humor too. That's what GCF does. A lot of their songs sound similar, but they mix it up too. On "Saving the streets" there's a bluesy interlude, and there are talking parts to their songs too. The sing-along parts are what define them as hardcore. Maybe they're not as abrasive as Shai Hulud, but they have the right attitude. Who else can get you singing along to a song about shopping for friends at a store ("Shopping for a crew")? They are one of my favorite bands because their lyrics are what makes them so unique. They're not tough-guy so they have intelligent things to say. If you're one of the more open-minded kids in the scene, this album is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars I JUST WANT TO HAVE GOOD CLEAN FUN!, June 3, 2004

This band is great straight edge or not. I am not a straight edger and not a vegan either (nor a vegetarian) but I love these guys a lot (I like sxe bands though so I guess my own testimonal doesn't really cut it). Anyways GCF are great! Not only do they pay plenty of homage to great bands of yore (ex: Minor Threat, Gorilla Biscuits (with the opening riff of saving the streets... right off of Start Today!), 7 Seconds and so on) and they didn't get as preachy or facist as their contempories (Floor Punch, Ten Yard Fight and One King Down being some examples). This is hardcore for everyone from straight edgers to skins (if I'm down with straight and your down with skins than we'll mosh together cuz' who shares wins). Nothing pretensious or preachy about it. And the best part is that this is not a glam hardcore band, thank god. I am getting so sick of glam hardcore it isn't even funny. Look maybe it is a good idea not to mix two genres (ummm hardcore and emo... what the hell?). So if you kids wearing your From Autumn To Ashes t-shirts think you know what hardcore is, pick up this album (and a Black Flag album oh and don't forget Minor Threat)becuase this the real deal. No whining about girl friends or stupid crap like that. Oh baby why did you do this to me? Whaaa whaaa, I don't want to hear that on a hard core record.
