Having bought Jennifer Paige's debut album, I'm ashamed to say I never listened to it other than the lead single "Crush." After listening to her new release, "Positively Somewhere," I'll have to go back and listen to every word.

"Positively Somewhere" is actually the best pop album I've heard in years. Chock-full of cuts all of which could be radio hits, Paige delivers a flowing array of songs that is thematic, but not conceptual, all with a pop sensability and a distinctly rock edge. Paige's whiskey voice is delicious, and I'm here to tell you I'm devouring every note. This CD has not left my player since I put it in 2 weeks ago.

There's no dismal teen bubblegum drivel here. This is what pop music should be. The lead track "These Days" resounds with its percussion and guitar hooks, telling the listener that Paige is definitely on her way. "Here With Me" finely presents Paige's ethereal voice on a dance-rock track that for some reason calls to mind both Enya and Pat Benatar -- strong music, good beat, great lyrics, and just one heck of a song. Nowhere is Paige's musical ability more prevalent than on the album's third track "Standed." Paige's only backing vocals on the entire album are her own. Usually, this can be a mistake, but here it's just divine. Jennifer knows harmony, and "Stranded" soars with musical riffs and tight vocals. This song is positively addictive. "Make Me" dares her lover to take everything she has. It's a track guaranteed to turn a man on and to make women say "Right on." Other standouts include "Not This Time," which tells her ex that he needs to move on because she already has; this is Paige's "I Will Survive" cut. "You Get Through" is a sweet song declaring her surprise and giddiness that she has found love, but it's not sappy or juvenile. If "The Edge" doesn't make you get off your butt and dance, then there's something seriously wrong with you.

I can't say enough about this album. I don't understand the negative reviews. This album is a must-own for anyone who loves pop music, and has been in despair since the Mickey Mouse alums took over the chart. "Positively Somewhere" is everything pop music should be. Buy it -- you won't regret it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Refreshing New Album from Jennifer Paige, December 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Positively Somewhere (Audio CD)
Sadly, Jennifer Paige is another forgotten artist in the world of "Pop". She doesn't get the recognition she deserves. When I first heard "Crush", I really liked her voice and her style of music, very catchy and different. I've been listening to "Positively Somewhere" in my car and I've been burning that CD up! This is an album that you don't get tired listening to. She is more mature and contemporary than say, "Brittany" and "Christina" and has way more talent! She has real talent and is a "true" artist. A natural talent, in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars o_O Even Better Than The First Album!! ^_^, December 16, 2004
This review is from: Positively Somewhere (Audio CD)
I loved her first album,it was an album full of ballad songs with catchy tunes and chrouses talking about love. Now this is more an upbeat album with only 2 slow songs.Get ready to dance and sing like crazy.
1."These Days"-8,2.It has a rocky guitar and it has great vocals and lyrics.I think is a cover though. Her first single
2."Here With Me"-8,6.A fantastic song,I love the lyrics and the chrous.A bit rocky too.
3."Stranded"-9,5.The ballad of the album. This is another cover, but its way better than the original, the music is completely different. This was her second and last single of the album.A shame
4."Make Me"-8,7.The latin song of the album,it has single material and is catchy and great to dance to,but it gets a bit annoying after a while.I still hearing it,though.
5."Way of The World"-7,6.An upbeat ballad with has awesome vocals and a fantastic chrous. In my opinion the chrous is repeated a lot of times, but it's still a good song.
6."Not This Time"-9,1.Another superb catchy and upbeat song.It has single material,a good vibe and vocals.Stand Up and Dance.
7."You Get Through"-7,7.I love the lyrics and her voice here,is a slower song, but with a good vibe
8."Feel So Far Away"-7.An alright song that is great to sing along to,but is not a wicked song. It's really slow but relaxing at the same time.
9."The Edge"-9,6 It's the most upbeat song in the whole album, its just sooooo catchy.I never get ride of it,its a shame it wasn't released as a single :(
10."Tell Me When"-7,3.Another good song(but not great). The music is Ok,the best here is her voice. Is more slow than upbeat.
11."Stay The Night"-7,1.I like the vibe and her voice,it's upbeat but is not as catchy as another songs. The chrous is not that great.
12."Vapor"-7,8.It's a good song,it's not the best one but it's very listenable. It's an upbeat song too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Industry's Most Unrecognized Artist, February 9, 2004

After her huge smash "Crush" from her self-titled debut, Jennifer Paige seemingly dropped off the face of the planet. Her sophomore effort, "Positively Somewhere" made virtually no impact in radio. However, this album is BY FAR one of the best I have ever heard. It is a perfect mix of Pop/Rock, ballads, and Dance. "These Days", the first single, is very edgy compared to her previous work. "Here With Me" and "Stranded" are actually cover songs, originally recorded by Plumb, (another amazing talent who goes unnoticed a lot - you might recognize the name: they recorded "Damage" from the movie Brokedown Palace) and Jennifer does them great justice, giving the songs a breathtaking and wonderful new style. Jennifer Paige has one of the most unique, distinguished voices in the music industry today, and it's such a shame that it goes unnoticed by most. Give this album a try. I'm sure you will love what you hear.

I loved Jennier Paige's first album. Everyone heard the song "Crush," I'm sure. However, the album was well rounded and had songs that were both catchy and beautiful. I always thought that Jennifer had a voice that was better to any of the new pop divas that are out there today, Christina, I'm pointing in your direction. While Jennifer isn't hitting notes that only dogs can hear, the ones she hits are not only fuller, but also speak of a singer who doesn't need to show off. Positively Somewhere, which I've been listening to since before it came out (thanks to the web) is a great follow-up for Jennifer. The songs are well rounded, yet also catchy, but never fluffy. I think it comes down to the fact that Jennifer Paige can really sing, and had a subtly that you don't find in many voices. She is equally comfortable singing pop and ballads. I've been waiting for Jennifer's new album for a while. It was worth the wait, because she didn't fill it up with one good song and 10 bad ones, like everyone else does. She waited and I'm glad for that. So many artists today think that they need to get something out right now for their fame might burn out. They want to cash in on every dollar they can make before the bottom falls out. I'm glad Jennifer keeps to her own schedule. You can clearly see that she is going to be around for a long time. In short, if you loved her first album, you'll love this one. It's more grown up, but still has an innocence that is quite rare in this musical climate.

Jennifer Paige's voice is just as beautiful as her face. What a talent!! I remember seeing her perform the song "Crush" on the Today show, and I immediately bought the CD. What I loved about her was the fact that with the kind of talent and integrity she was displaying, there was NO WAY she was going to be heard on the radio. She seemed unwilling to sell out just to be popular. Well, after listening to this CD, obviously somewhere along the way she decided to sell out. Fortunately she hasn't sunk to the level of going around scantily clad and falling down drunk in public (thank God). This CD is so heavily studio-manufactured that it really doesn't even matter who's singing. It's a real shame, I'd love to see JP come out with a new CD, but for now, if you want to hear her purely beautiful voice, you'll have to stick with her first (self-titled) CD.

BTW...Jennifer sang a song on the Disney movie "The Country Bears" called "Kick It In Gear" and she ROCKED an otherwise worthless movie!!!

Jennifer Paige seems to have been lost in the shuffle around the turn of the millennium, in spite of the fact that her debut single "Crush" beat the stuffing out of anything Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera were putting out. What a loss! Although her first CD was kind of a mixed bag, with Positively Somewhere she came back strong. Sadly we haven't heard from her since, but based on this CD I'd love to hear more. I didn't discover this one myself until I went back on a "Whatever happened to?" tour through Amazon, and remembering "Crush" I stumbled onto Jennifer's two releases. Strangely I don't think anything from Positively Somewhere ever got released as a single, which is a dirty shame.

The CD opens with its three best songs: "These Days" is more or less the unofficial title track, a great catchy tune with some cool guitar riffs to distinguish it from just any old pop song. "Here With Me" is another tremendous upbeat tune, while "Stranded" cools it down a bit with a beautiful haunting chorus.

After such a strong opening, the rest of the CD does not disappoint. "Way Of The World" is bouncy pop, and the final track "Vapor" is another good example from the pop set while also closing the CD perfectly. "Feel So Far Away" has a smoky sultry flavor reminding me a lot of Sade, and "Tell Me When" has a bit of of the same. The fast-paced "The Edge" is almost a dance tune that uses more bass than the rest of the CD, to interesting effect. "Make Me" and "Stay The Night" both have a very slight Latin flavor, normally not something I much enjoy but done very well in both songs.

After hearing Positively Somewhere, I'd love to see Jennifer come back to release a third CD. Sadly I think the market won't hear of it, and in the meantime this delightful disc is becoming much harder to find. I highly recommend picking up one of the last few in circulation. If you like female vocal pop at all, you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Paige can certainly get somewhere., March 8, 2004
This review is from: Positively Somewhere (Audio CD)
"Stranded", the very first single off Paige's sophomore offering "Positively Somewhere" is oozing young Natalie Imbruglia but with a lesser edge. Such a very good rendition and I consider it much appealing than the original Plumb has recorded. She maintained her "girlie" image and that's what I like about her. "Here With Me" is a total standout along with the upbeat "Stay The Night", the ethereal "Vapor", "Way Of The World" and the very "insulting" "Not This Time" is just pure girl power! Nicely done here. The songs off the album are co-written by her and that plays a very vital role in interpreting each song and Paige all made them her own. Check out the very personal "You Get Through"... surely tears will run down... I just love this album. Why 4 stars only? her vocal range is somewhat limited, if she could reach or belt out a note like Tina Arena then I'll give her 5 stars. Still... the album is all good!

This is a great CD. It takes a little while to get used to it. The songwriting is not too schmaltzy. The beat songs are: Feel So Far Away, The Edge, and Tell Me When. The songs have great beats. And she has a great voice!

Jennifer actually topped her 1998 debut and delivers a cd you will adore instantly. "These Days" is a perfect pop song. She makes it into a hypnotic and alluring masterpiece even with the silly rapping in it. And "Stranded" was played non-stop in European countries like Italy but to our cultural deprivation was not discovered in the US. She deserves a lot more recognition than she gets- especially in the US. And she's hot as hell so I'm not sure what the problem is. Keep eating your carbs though Jen.
