Another Masterpiece, October 8, 2002
This review is from: Positivity 2 / Superstar / Cheap (Audio CD)
Once again Suede have proven that their B-sides are better than most bands A-sides. Positivity is brimming with incredible musicianship. This is song writing as it ought to be. This is a catchy, light, and fun first single of the new CD "A New Morning", which is already a classic if you have managed to find a copy of it, and it is a must have. Both CD-1 and CD-2 contain 2 new tracks that are not on the new CD but are brilliant and are must haves. Enjoy!

part two of the single, part two of my review, October 1, 2002
This review is from: Positivity 2 / Superstar / Cheap (Audio CD)
Well, I was vain enough to think folks would read what I had to say about "Postivity" CD1, so why not CD2? You can go there for my opinion on the A-side, but for the B-sides:
"Superstar" - An odd one. The opening is almost like A NEW MORNING sneering at HEADMUSIC. And there is almost something `70s FM about the chorus. I dunno. To be honest, with that title, I could easily have seen this being another Suede stormer (a la "Filmstar") or a dark ballad ("My Dark Star" or "Popstar"). Instead, there is something sweet about it. And the musical sweep is somewhat reminiscent of middle period Suede Mark 1. I could hear this on the STAY TOGETHER ep.
"Cheap" - this one is my favorite, I think. I love the piano riff that dominates the track, and the oddball vocal effects remind me of some of the COMING UP b-sides. Lyrically, it's got some of that Brett Anderson simultaneous glorification and tearing down of the gutterati. It just strikes me instantly.
All in all, I am definitely warmed up for the new album. Don't sell this band short. They will always surprise you.
