Well I agree and disagree with SirGrandWall. Positivity is a okay single, One love has it's moments (But I think doesn't try hard enough to make it anything special), but the reason to own this is Simon. I agree it's the reason to buy this. It's got classic Suede stamped all over it. If it's a older song, you wouldn't be able to tell, but I'm not sure if it's about the drummer. I doubt it, since Simon is still with us today, and the song itself is reflecting that the Simon in the song has left the planet. There is a hopelessness in it, but asks questions that have no easy answers. But there seems to be light at the end of the song once the drums finally begin. If you're not sure how this song compares to their entire catalogue, you really owe it to yourself to buy this and find out. Kudos to Suede for finally releasing it if it is indeed a "lost" b-side.

Okay, so this is just a sliver of what is to be the new Suede, but it's a lovely tease. The hand of Stephen Street (Morrissey, Blur, Lloyd Cole) is quite obvious on here. He has a real open approach, and he makes the music sound...I dunno...natural? (John Leckie, producer for Stone Roses and Trash Can Sinatras, also leant a knob twiddle or two to the main track.)

"Positivity" missed the boat by a couple of months. It should have been a summer single. It's breezy and lovely to be around. It doesn't have the kick of old school Suede singles, but that's not the point here. It's mood as pop music, and it's uplifting. The video on the enhanced section is quite swell, also. It's an example of how videos should be--visuals that match the song. It begins as a simple performance clip, but the atmosphere increases as it goes, with birds and butterflies and such. Nice.

"One Love" -- that melody was born for handclaps. I could see this one being an anthem. Maybe ratcheted up a notch or two, it'd be phenomenal live. Your regular Suede "come on, kids" chorus, but with a bit more...errr...positivity. Like it.

"Simon" is familiar to anyone with the LOST AT TV dvd, or in the Suede fanclub. It's a silky, melancholy ballad. There is a beauty to it that only Suede can manage--both glamorous and tragically human. That's the Suede formula in a nutshell, and why we adore them.

The title track "Positivity" is pretty weak IMO. Fans usually expect more from them than this.

"One Love" is decent, about on-par with much of what is on the full-length album (that is, underwhelming).

"Simon", on the other hand, is a great song. Great. It brings-back memories of 'the old Suede', that aching smooth balladry... it's ace. A seriously great song that trumps ANYthing on the new album.

So, if you're a fan of "DOG MAN STAR" or "COMING UP", you may wish to invest in this.
