More About the Author

Sharon Ashwood is a free-lance journalist, novelist, desk jockey and enthusiast for the weird and spooky. She has an English literature degree but works as a finance geek. Interests include growing her to-be-read pile and playing with the toy graveyard on her desk. As a vegetarian, she freely admits the whole vampire/werewolf lifestyle fantasy would never work out, so she writes paranormal romances instead.

Sharon lives in the Pacific Northwest and is owned by the Demon Lord of Kitty Badness.

Possessed By A Warrior
Sharon Ashwood
Harlequin Nocturne, May 1 2014, $5.75
ISBN: 9780263913941

The attack left La Compagnie des Morts lead horseman Jack Anderson the vampire dead, but not before Death contacted his teammate Sam Ralston. The police ruled Jack's demise was caused by a DUI. Attending his funeral are his niece wedding planner Chloe and three of his friends, Sam, Kenyon the werewolf and Dr. Mark Winspear. Sam turns out to be co-executor along with a stunned Chloe of Jack's estate; both share in common love, respect and now grief for the dearly departed billionaire, and a disbelief that he died while under the influence; but apparently little else.

At Jack's Oakwood estate, Sam and Chloe find a wedding dress with valuable jewels sewed into it and a note to her to trust him. As the pair team up on an investigation as to who or what killed the leader of the Four Horsemen field agents unit and try to learn the secret of the wedding dress, unknown adversaries assault Chloe; causing Sam to put aside his thirst for revenge in order to protect the woman he loves.

The paranormal elements, particularly the species, come across as genuine as does the inquiry while Chloe and Sam are a delightful pairing of seemingly star-crossed lovers. Fast-paced, readers will enjoy stepping into the Ashwood realm in a terrific romantic urban fantasy.

So who killed Death? It was almost a joke. Irony sucked.

It’s up to the remaining 3 Horsemen of La Campagnie (The Company) to discover just that. Especially for Sam, aka, War. This was an affront; Jack was their leader, and a battle Sam would deliver to exact rightful vengeance. Now why on earth would Jack bequeath a spectacular wedding dress (diamond-encrusted bodice) to his niece, Chloe? It must be a clue! With it came instructions to trust Sam, and Chloe was just as blood-thirsty for justice. Hunting alongside Chloe didn’t suck (in his dreams!) Did I just write hunting? Well, yeah…vampire’s hunt! Bury the lead, why don’t I? :D It’s why I took the story in the first place (no surprise). But after one visit to Sharon Ashwood’s hilarious blog, I knew I was bound for something special. Possessed by a Warrior was a tantalizing, sumptuous tale of romance and thrills. I already plan on gifting this to my friends!

“War was meant for killing, not affairs of the heart.” Whatever lets you sleep at night, Sam. Hardened against any possibility of a loving relationship, Sam constantly admonishes himself with his credo for the lingering fantasies revolved around Chloe: Women like her die around creatures like you. The mutual attraction sizzled, however, and the observations, the “sizing up”, refused to be ignored. Ms. Ashwood maintained Sam at a discreet distance (heavy on the brooding), but aroused with a silent seduction of luscious and heated monologue.

She was pretty, but it was a sense of poised energy that made her remarkable – like an arrow about to fly. He couldn’t help watching, expectant for the moment, wondering what would happen if she finally sprang lose.

Sometimes a good friend of mine will send me a book and just tell me to READ IT and because her advice is normally sound I generally go with it and yet again I was pleased that I did.

Had I seen this in the store I would probably never have given it a second glace. I am not a typical "romance" reader and even the "nocturne" on the cover wouldn't have been enough to tempt me and that would have been my bad luck.

Despite what the cover would have you believe this is more than your typical love story. Full of the paranormal and a good mystery underlying everything this was a fast, fun, and easy read.

Does it meet all the regular criteria and have the ultimate ending predictable from the beginning? Possibly ... but in this case it doesn't detract at all from the fun journey that will get you there.

Summer is almost here and this would be the perfect beach read for any paranormal romance lovers!
