I have followed this author online for several years and always enjoyed her work. However, with this, her first published book, she has moved into another realm entirely. Erica Lawson is definitely a woman who knows her craft. She paints her characters so vividly you can hear them speak, feel them breathe and almost smell the food they eat. You will wonder why your own muscles ache after a pounding chase scene. She is a word stylist in the truest sense, carefully blending and choosing each scene. Her characters have been drawn so well that the one downside is that when you turn the final page of the book, you miss them almost immediately. Like others who read this book, I will be watching and waiting impatiently for her second published book. While I will hope to see Morgan and Andrea again soon, I will quickly snatch up whatever offering she brings to the table.
With finances the way they are these days, it is beyond nice when you buy a book only to learn its worth has exceeded its cost. This one goes on the library shelf but will come and go many times as it is far too good not to read again and again.

Detective Sergeant Morgan Riley O'Callaghan of New York City's Fifth Precinct, Homicide Division, comes across as aloof, arrogant and abrasive but is kept in relentless but caring check by her partner. Several of her colleagues known as the Three Musketeers are a piece of work, to be disliked immediately and throughout the book - they have no redeeming qualities.

In walks the new Assistant District Attorney, Andrea Worthington, a southern belle socialite from South Carolina and it is an explosive first meeting between her and Morgan. You know there will be a romance down the line but have to wonder how it will ever come about based on that meeting. It does happen with a great amount of patience, gentleness and understanding.

A murder takes place and looks like an open and shut case but really starts the twists and turns in this first rate mystery novel. Possessing Morgan is full of action and suspense. It is a solid book, well written, imaginative and intriguing with an excellent thoughtout plot and powerful characters. This book holds your attention from beginning to end with fast paced drama. This author's first publication is a winner - don't lend out your copy, keep it on your shelf and make your friends buy their own. Without a doubt FIVE Stars....

Possessing Morgan is Erica Lawson's first book, but she shows more ability in her writing than most first time authors. The characters are well developed and complex without being stereotypical. The plot flows smoothly and has enough twists to keep the reader wondering what really is going on in the story. Lawson has created a strong cast of supporting characters, including Morgan's partner and his family, and a police detective who is thoroughly unlikeable in his bigotry and arrogance. The hardest characters to write must be the ones you know the reader won't like, so the author has to make them more believable than any others. Lawson achieves that. There are some parts of the story that are somewhat contrived. At the end the two mysteries come together in a way that hardly seems possible in a city the size of New York, but this is fiction. Lawson ties together several strands to create a very enjoyable book.

Possessing Morgan is an excellent first effort. The book is engaging and the type that you want to keep reading. It certainly should generate interest in Erica Lawson's next book whenever it comes out.

I had been a fan of this author since she began posting stories on the internet five years ago. I have watched her story-telling skills grow and blossom, each new story another piece in the mosaic that was Aurelia. Now she takes another giant step with the release of her first book, "Possessing Morgan", under a new pen name.

I liked the book from the first page. Her characters are strong, well developed and the reader can emphathize with them. She has managed to skillfully interweave police drama, mystery, thriller and romance into one action-packed story.

I don't want to give the plot away, so you can discover the events yourself as they unfold, but let me say that the reader barely has the time to catch her breath as one explosive event follows another at breakneck speed.

I thoroughly recommend this read and give it FIVE STARS.

I came across "Possessing Morgan" well after it had been published, but I'm glad I did. Ms. Lawson's writing flows easily and with style. Her dialogue is true to life. We don't always say what we mean and Ms. Lawson's dialogue reflects that. While I had an idea who the suspect was, the journey to the truth by the detectives was both enjoyable and exciting. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.
