The Possession of Celia is a worthy successor to The Captivity of Celia. Sir Jason, Colin and the delicious Celia have moved on to the French countryside, where Sir Jason - as a form of revenge, does his best to expand Celia's erotic horizons. And what revenge! Celia excels in her new role, finding the delights of her own gender nearly as pleasureable as the delights she shared with Sir Jason and Colin. But just when you begin to think that she has at last found her paradise, a mysterious stranger arrives on the scene, changing the dynamic of the Hardwicke household.

The Captivity of Celia was a wonderful, delectable surprise and I looked forward to reading the sequel. The Possession of Celia picks up right where Captivity left off. Celia has finally been freed from her sexual obligations -- Sir Jason Hardwicke has decided to let Celia and Colin go free. But Celia cannot forget the erotic encounters she'd had with Sir Jason. So, just when you think things are over between Celia and Sir Jason, a new twist comes along, and the erotica sizzles even more than the first time. But how does Celia feel about the two men in her life? Who will possess Celia? There are various twists throughout the novel.

The scenes in this installment are hotter than the first. Sir Jason Hardwicke is such a dark, delicious character. I couldn't get enough of reading about him. Also, I love the backdrop of the French countryside. The setting makes the novel all the more interesting. But the thing I like the most is that there is a compelling plot along with the erotica. This is classic erotica you cannot miss. M.S. Valentine has become one of my favorite erotic authors. I recommend The Possession of Celia, but you'll have to read The Captivity of Celia first.

I have not yet read "The Captivity of Celia" but I just plunged in with "The Possession," and it was great. There are lots of flashbacks to the time of "The Captivity" so I didn't feel lost. The plot is really great--I just love stories of sexual initiation and awakening--and the sex scenes are hot, delicate, imaginative, and detailed. The author creates a whole world that I find it hard to get out of my mind. The idyllic, yet perverse, atmosphere of the villa in Provence has just the right balance of ecstatic pleasure with a seasoning of purely psychological cruelty. This is the first book by this author that I've read, but I'll definitely be back for more.

Celia's fiance Colin is wanted for a murder he didn't commit, so the two of them flee to France, a move which Colin hopes will release Celia from the hold his cousin, Sir Jason Hardwicke, has over both of them. But Celia finds her considerate and tender lover too tame now, and with them short of funds in a foreign country where they don't speak the language, it isn't long until Sir Jason catches up with them again.

I'm mildly curious about what happened in The Captivity of Celia (Blue Moon), because there are so many flashbacks in Possession that it's hard to imagine that I've missed anything of importance. In fact, even events that occur after the start of Possession are told in flashbacks, a style that I found dizzying and thus irritating. Someone starts to do something, then all of a sudden they're thinking about what happened the day or the month before. It makes for an atmospheric read, but not a very coherent one.

I might have enjoyed the atmosphere, but one of the biggest factors of whether or not I'll enjoy erotica is if I can enjoy the particular fantasy. This one is, as is evident from the title, D/s, which is fine, but Sir Jason's tactics in this book involve dominating Celia into having sex with women. I don't mind one or two scenes like that, but it's really not my cuppa, and it got to be pretty boring and repetitious after a while.

I'm guessing I'd have enjoyed the first book more, but I'm not planning on going out of my way to look for it.
