HOT! With A Plot!!, September 5, 2004
"The Possession" is the rare erotic novel - it is well written and actually has a plot on which to hang some varied, sensual and sizzling prose. And this is one hot piece of fiction! There are also two main characters who are very likable, instead of the usual one-dimensional fare. Some of the secondary characters are intriguing also. Anonymous intimacy is a factor here, but romance plays a big part in the plot - which I, personally, enjoy.
Kris Torrence, a prim, proper professor of anthropology, is 30-something, single with no love interest in sight and bored. Underneath all her propriety and professionalism, is a passionate, beautiful redhead, longing to do something wild and crazy for once. Her libido is alive but stifled...and really needs some exercise. She sees an advertisement for Hotel Atlantis, an exclusive resort for wealthy gentlemen, situated on a private island off the San Francisco coast. The owner is looking for attractive women, "exceptional females," to be "submissives" for a week. The salary is phenomenal. But money is definitely not why Kris applies for the job.
Jack McKenna is the bane of Kris' existence. He is a wealthy businessman who finances a lot of the research in the anthropology department where Kris works - and he's a super hunk! They argue and snap at each other every time they're together, but they have a strong mutual attraction. He is a close friend of Hotel Atlantis' owner and his vacation, surprisingly coincides with Kris' week-long adventure. Sparks fly! And fantasies come true - for the reader also!!
I read "The Possession" in a few hours. Jaid Black knows how to tell a steamy tale, and her use of humor is wonderful. The prose is graphic and deals with exhibitionism, voyeurism, light bondage, etc., etc., and some of the language is explicit. Highly recommended for those who like erotic fiction, but not for the faint of heart! Enjoy the wild ride!

Amazing!, April 7, 2002
This review is from: The Possession (CD-ROM)
If you haven't yet ventured into the world of erotic romance then you'll be hooked forever once you've read the work of this author. I love all of her books, and look forward with great anticipation to her new releases. The Possession is Ms. Black's newest contemporary, and it just goes to show that this author has more than a few tricks up her sleeve when it comes to weaving an erotic and romantic tale. If you're tired of the same old hum-drum formulaic seduction scenes in your romantica tales, then get ready to be pleasantly surprised by the decidedly 'unformulaic' twists and turns to be found in The Possession. In The Possession, Kris Torrence - a single, 34-year-old professor of anthropology has a problem; She's bored. Completely and utterly bored. She's tired of being a straight-laced, well-bred, always-do-the-right-thing kind of girl. She's ready to let down her hair and experience the wilder side of life...no matter what it takes. A classified ad in a newspaper for an island resort catches her eye and imagination. It seems that Hotel Atlantis is looking for select females to work in their 'gentleman's' resort situated off the coast of San Francisco. Kris has heard of the posh island retreat, and knows just what kind of working girl the advirtisment is aimed towards. She isn't even surprised to read the words - "Women comfortable in the role of submissive are especially needed" - typed clearly at the bottom of the ad. Although Kris is an indepentdant, intelligent, and hardworking single girl, she cannot deny the heated rush of pleasure the thought of being submissive to a man brings washing through her. With no small amount of excitement, and before she can have a chance to change her mind, Kris applies for the week long postion...and to her surprise is hired almost on the spot. Kris is assured by John Calder, Hotel Atlantis' owner, that her identity as a college professor will stay a secret while she works for him, as the club only caters to the richest sort of men - hardly the type of man she would know in her normal, hum-drum lifestyle. Little does Kris know that her long time nemesis, and secret crush, Jack McKenna, is close friends with the island resort's owner, and that he plans on spending the week at the resort relaxing and tasting of the pleasures that Hotel Atlantis has to offer. Understandably, when Kris sees Jack across the hotel lobby her first night there, she is stunned and seeks to flee before he recognizes her. I won't give away anymore, but I admit that it's hard not to :) You'll have to read it for yourself. Suffice it to say that this book is HOT. Hot hot hot!! As always is the case with a Jaid Black novel you'll be entranced with her understanding of human nature, and the secret desires of women. Be prepared to fall in love with the secondary characters as well - I hope she does a sequel featuring John Calder. This is a rich, evocative tale...as well as a steamy and sensual erotica, and I loved it! I also reccomend her other books, ESPECIALLY the erotic paranormal/sci-fi Trek M'Qan series staring with book 1 The Empress' New Clothes. Once you've read Black you'll never go back! :)

An enthralling sizzler!! Yum..., March 15, 2004
It wasn't easy finding this book. It wasn't available at bookshops and I wanted to get the paperback, not the CD-Rom version. Boy, am I glad that I didn't give up on it! The Possession is one of the sexiest, steamiest, well-written erotic romance novels out there! Jaid Black is right up Emma Holly's alley when it comes to writing risque, unconventional romance novels. Kris Torrence is an anthropologist who has had it with her uneventful life of academia. She wants to do something out of the ordinary for once in her life. And what could be less ordinary than traveling to a private gentleman's resort to fulfill her lifetime fantasy of experiencing sexual submission? She will leave her five cats behind and make the unconventional trip. She'll also be able to forget the rough and gorgeous Jack McKenna, her longtime nemesis. But she and Jake get more than they bargain for at the resort...
The building of tension and subsequent sex scenes awoke all of my senses. This novel has the most smoldering erotic scenes I've ever read. And the best part is that Ms. Black does not sacrifice story development and characterization in favor of gratuitous sex scenes. In fact, there are no gratuitous sex scenes here -- there is a perfect blend of plot, erotica, romance and humor. And I love the fact that Jack McKenna isn't the typical perfect hero. He makes Kensington Brava's bad boys seem like sissies. I'm flabbergasted. This book was worth waiting for. I shall definitely read Jaid Black's other efforts with gusto!
