3.0 out of 5 stars Possession
The score to this movie is as hauntingly beautiful and memorable as the movie itself. Great for a relaxing pick me up or a romantic evening. It reminds me of the movie soundtracks Emma and Sense and Sensibility. The reason I rated this a three, however, is because, as lovely as the music is, it struck me as rather repetitive. All I suggest is that you listen to the sample...

...of a wonderful score if you take the plunge and decide to buy "Possession." This is a score that is lush with haunting poetry, the perfect backdrop to the poetry of the two pairs of lovers in the film. It beautifully captures both the mutual passion of the Victorians' poetry romance and the promise of awakening love taking possession of the modern-day academics.

The love theme echoes the sea where Ash and Cristabel both consumated, then canned their affair, and the ebb and flow of Maud and Roland as they retrace the Victorians' footsteps and try to discover exactly what they want their own relationship to be.

"On the other side of attraction lies repulsion," Roland says to Maud, echoes of which are contained in the music of Blanche's Suicide and Exile in Brittany, where we discover the consequences of the Ash/Cristabel affair, the echoes of the pain that passion can sometimes bring.

Gabriel Yared has created a moving score that will touch your soul, and make you crave some possession of your own.

Passionate romance. Reflective beauty. Mysterious longing. This is orchestral music at its best.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Yared's best soundtracks, August 3, 2008
This review is from: Possession [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
I'm a great fan of Gabriel Yared's music and all I can say is that Possession is one of his best works ever. Breathtakingly beautiful, I listen to it and I'm out of this world...

Highly recommended.

Beautifully orchestrated! Loved the recurring, poetic theme throughout the music. Very soothing, relaxing and thought provoking.

I particularly liked the tracks, "The British Museum", "Maud and Roland", "Renewed Correspondence", "Discovering the Letters", and "Poignant Thoughts".
