4.0 out of 5 stars Some buzzing bulbs
The lamp holds 4 CFLs. Very bright. However, a couple of the CFLs that were included with the lamp buzz when hot. I swapped out the bulbs for 5k (full-spectrum) bulbs and am very happy. It is a tight fit though for the two bulbs that face each other, so make sure to look at the overall length of replacement bulbs. My replacement bulbs are a little too long so I left one...

It is a tight fit though for the two bulbs that face each other, so make sure to look at the overall length of replacement bulbs. My replacement bulbs are a little too long so I left one of the older (warm spectrum) ones in there.

Great way to get 100+ watts of CFLs: similar light level to a 500 watt halogen, but obviously more efficient.

Also note that the sockets are the new GU24 base, so screw type bulbs will not work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good torchiere, February 26, 2010

This unit has an attractive chrome finish. All the light from the 4, 26 watt GU24 CFL bulbs is directed upward so there is no distracting glare as is frequently the case in torchieres with glass shades. Of course, you better have a white ceiling. The interior of the bowl is painted white and probably has considerable light loss due to close quarters and multiple reflections for the light to escape. Will fall over if tilted more than about 18 degrees. The switch has 4 postions: off, 1 bulb, 2 bulbs, 4 bulbs illuminated. You can't get too far away from the unit and still have good light for reading - about 3 feet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent light source, August 21, 2006

Good light, and bright enough to actually brighten the room to the point where I can read easily (otherwise I reach for my cheaters too much). Takes a moment of thought to assemble (still haven't figured out what the black rings are for), but it works quite well (and I got compliments from vistors on how it looked).

I did get a representative but he was rude and mean and refused to answer my concerns. Overall a horrific experience. I'm out $175 and stuck with a lamp that does not work. Beware you may get ripped off by LAMP PLUS. Their customer service stinks and their products stinks.

It's not as bright as I would've hoped. In fact when I first turned it on to it's brightest setting, I thought all the bulbs must not be working so I tipped it over only to see that all were in fact illuminated. I will say that looking straight into the bowl is blinding, but the inner bowl is not reflective, so I don't feel that it really reflects or dispurses much light into a room. Got it for a room that is 13 x 11... doesn't exactly light up the whole room the way the old hologen lamps did, but it looks good with the rest of my decor and I guess it's bright enough. I'd say it illuminates more than half the room. All in all I think it's too expensive for how much light it actually gives off.

Another thing I should mention is that even though the description on the pamplet that comes with the lamp says this lamp simulates daylight as someone who has several daylight lamps I can tell you it most certainly does not simulate daylight. It is perhaps the worst simulator of daylight of any such lamp I've owned... It's not full spectrum as it's rather yellow, but not as yellow as your standard yellow bulbs. I'm not sure if its the bulbs or the lamp that creates this affect, but it does not simulate daylight.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Replacement Bulbs, April 29, 2011

This review is from: Possini Euro Design Light Blaster™ Torchiere Floor Lamp (Misc.)
Light Blaster(tm) Ultra Spectrum® Torchiere Floor Lamp is a good lamp, solidly made, but there is a problem with the bulbs. The lamp came with the VIVA PBCFS2670120v 26W which I cannot find after hours of searching. LampsPlus sells the lamp but doesn't sell the bulb. The bulb which they are now shipping with the lamp, the MaxLite GU24, doesn't fit 2 of the 4 sockets. It is just a little too wide. We broke a bulb when the lamp arrived and immediately tried to replace it but we could not. So don't buy the lamp unless you can find replacement bulbs which we could not find and which LampsPlus.com will not find for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars specialty bulbs used, April 4, 2011

One of the few replacements for opaque top, indirect lighting torchieres with high wattage circline bulbs, and has a fancy finish justifying price. However, the common 26W spiral 5" cfl bulbs will only fit three into this as made (see below), as to fit two facing each other a specialty low profile or squat format bulb is used probably made just for this lamp, and may not be available long term. It could be found at only two dealers -- compared to GE flat 55W 2D's available in storefronts. These low profile spirals are available from the lamp dealer similar in price to the longer, 5" bulbs, but another distributor charges three times that. Oddly regular bulbs would fit were the sockets on one side repositioned and angled towards the side -- the brackets are screwed in, just some small holes needed.
The shorter and fatter squat bulbs have slightly shorter tubes with 1600 lumens instead of 1700-1800 for regular. All these spiral bulbs seem less efficient than the GE 2D 55W and circline bulbs, rated 4000 lumens. These seemede just as bright as this 6400 lumen 4 spiral set, but no light meter used. Maybe some light inside these spirals is wasted, certainly doesn't shine out directly, compared to flat shapes -- not clear how output gets measured.
Customers who really like this lamp's looks might want to get a dozen spare bulbs with it while available. Such lamps with specialty circline bulbs have been discontinued after a few years in the past.
An advantage of the spirals, though, is they are available in high temp rating sunlight, daylight color when wanted(though not the squat ones). There might be some of the GE bulbs that way, though, needs checking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great lamp, makes my home office bright as day!, January 15, 2011

This review is from: Possini Euro Design Light Blaster™ Torchiere Floor Lamp (Misc.)
The lamp is built very well. It is really, really bright on the maximum setting - it lights up my small home office as bright as day. The quality of light is really nice too - the "Ultra Spectrum" light looks quite similar to the light that comes out of my neodynium full spectrum bulbs, maybe with a little more blue in it, which contributes to the daylight feeling this lamp gives. I took one star off for the non-intuitive level settings (low is one bulb, medium is three, high is all four), one of the bulbs having come partially disassembled, and the cruddy packaging the lamp came in, but these are really just quibbles. It is a great lamp and is better than my expectations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, bright lamp, August 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Possini Euro Design Light Blaster™ Torchiere Floor Lamp (Misc.)
I just bought a condo that has no ceiling fixture in the living room, and was looking for a way to brighten it up. I tried other lamps that were not bright enough, and was afraid I was going to have to spend major bucks on having an electrician install either track lighting or a fixture. I am loathe to spend $200 on a lamp, but I was quite pleased with the amount of light this puts out. It lights up the entire room. The only thing I found lacking was the barely adequate assembly instructions. They should at the very least mention that the black rings are for shipping purposes only, and need to be *removed* before you can assemble the lamp. Other than that, I am quite pleased. Nice bright light, and much cheaper than my alternative, not to mention much more energy efficient than a halogen.
