OK, so it's no Schindlers' List. On the other hand it's not trying to be. Im a mail carrier so from my perspective it's a funny movie. Some of the classics are Orens' Paranoia to the point he has to record daily occurances on his route. The Postmaster offering the office screw-ups promotions. The utterly dead on spoof of Postal on-the-job-training videos. Add to this some funny sight gags. And you get a quite entertaining movie. I happened to see this on HBO and recorded it and passed it around my small office, the other carriers loved it. The supervisor that watched it mysteriously found it "not funny". That just adds to its charm. Some of the humor is crass, and you really have to suspend your disbelief. But just enjoy it for what it is and youll have a laugh.

Postal Worker is a beautifully made movie that was shot in Industry City, Los Angeles (as I was told by the director). The fact that all the characters gave the sense that "something was missing from their cranium" is what leads you to stay intrigued until the conclusion, which to some may seem predictable. But what's facinating, is seeing the factors that derive from soley one person (not Oren) that lead to the conclusion. After speaking to the director J.J., it was more than rewarding to learn the history and derivation of the movie. This movie is definitely one of my favorites, along with Clockwatchers, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Tank Girl, and possibly Clockwork Orange(I still haven't decided what I think about and if I even like that one yet...those of you who've seen Clockwork Orange know what I'm talking about). But if you like any of the above movies, you'll definitely love Postal Worker!!

If you were given this video for free, you would still want refund.
Considering how large the Postal service is, how it is found in every community across our nation, it amazes me that no film makers seem to have a clue as to what goes on there. There is plenty of real life insanity going on at the Post Office , why make it even more unbelievable? Normally film makers go to a lot of effort to make their works seem believable. Here they went the opposite direction. I just can't find a way to describe this movie without resorting to language I haven't used since grade school, so I just won't bother.

Dumbest Movie Ever Made,

This review is from: Postal Worker [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. This movie gives the US Postal Service a bad name and a bad image. Sometimes the postman do commit some shootings like the one displayed in this movie but the chances this happening is as good as your chances of getting strike by lighting, not very good. I can understand them showing the point of the stress they go through but there are many people that have worse jobs and you have to think that would have more then one security guard at a post office. Overall, save your valuable money and time and dont buy this movie because it really...

There seems to be an influx of Black Comedies rolling out ever since one of the genre's predecessors, the Horror Film, got jump-started by Scream, in late '96. These are NOT easy films to make, since one slip in either direction can land the film in unbelievable idiocy, or in a valley of depressing, non-entertaining garbage. Unfortunately, "Postal Worker" leans more toward the latter. While other films such as "Clockwatchers" and "Office Killer" have pulled the sly tricks of being satiric and deadly serious with much of the same material, "Postal Worker" does neither. It revolves around one particularly demented----or is he just retarded?---Carrier named Oren, who lives in much the same world as "Eraserhead". He has a shrewish wife, an idiotic, tyrannical boss, insensitive coworkers, and a crush on the office bimbo who does nothing short of spit in his face. The supposed plot revolves around a visiting psychologist who is trying to pinpoint behavior patterns in the workers to figure out just what makes them "go postal". But nothing in this film presents compelling evidence as to why postal workers are under such "incredible stress". Why not make a film about Air Traffic Controllers, or Computer Operators? It would have been just as non-entrhalling. Since "Postal Worker" offers such little insight into the "going postal" situation (why it occurs, etc.) it's ultimately pointless. The acting is bad, the direction juvenile with tired gimmicks such as distorted POV's to symbolize psychosis, and the script is only ocassionally worth a smirk. It's a wonder the US Government hasn't slapped this with a libel suit, since it's portrayal of the agency is hostile, to say the least (and I'm no big fan). This is an extremely puzzling film. It's shot on (I believe) 16mm, but has the hyper-bright colors and feel of Video. Does anyone out there even know it's origins, and what it's makers were trying to prove? Searching the Net finds no results. Watching this film won't give you any more clues...it serves only as a curiousity and nothing more. One things for sure---it definitely wasn't made to make money. |
