Aural Postcard From Heaven is Timeless Soul,
By
This review is from: Postcards From Heaven (Audio CD)
As a huge Spinners fan with an appreciation and deep respect for Seals and Crofts, my jaw dropped when I heard Postcards From Heaven, a near-flawless hybrid of them both, with a dash of Beatles and Blackbyrds sprinkled in for good measure. Every song on this mesmerizing album bears repeated plays. But don't think that this record is merely an exercise in retroactivity; the Lighthouse Family sound is indeed contemporaneous to Seal and especially the Christians (why does it seem there is no reference to that immensely talented combo anywhere on Amazon?) not to mention Jai and the late Ephraim Lewis. One day the Nineties will be rightfully looked upon as a golden era for British soul, and the Lighthouse Family will be as worthy a representative of that revival as any. NOTE: some European pressings of Postcards From Heaven, such as the one I found, do NOT include "Lifted", one of three sizable hits (the others being "Raincloud" and "High").

I'm sick of trendy music critics who slate "MOR" groups just because they are what they are. Some of the best albums of the last ten years might be lumped into this category, The Devlins' Waiting, George Michael's Older and, certainly, Lighthouse Family's Postcards From Heaven. Never a big fan of their debut, Ocean Drive, Postcards is a much moodier, mellower record full of subtle, implied emotion. The closest they come to 'pop' is on the two lead singles Raincloud and High, but it's elsewhere that the real gems lie. The ballads are timeless - particularly Sun In The Night, Lost In Space and the title track. As dreamy and endearing a trio of songs as you could ever hope to hear. The album is essential for these tracks alone, but the whole works splendidly and for anyone, and I mean anyone you self-righteous muso bastards, this is a very worthwhile purchase.

Brilliant album...,

There are only a few albums in my collection that I have taken a liking to upon first listening. This album is definitely one of them. I discovered LH while vacationing in Thailand of all places, where it is not uncommon to hear their music played live in the local pubs. To this day, though, it still baffles me that they can be so popular in Europe and parts of Asia, but not the U.S. Lighthouse Family are the best kept secret out there...although from reading the other reviews it appears that people are starting to catch on and appreciate their music as much as I do. Although "High" remains the song that "put them on the map," it is the other songs that make this CD so special. Their sound is quite mature, led by Tunde Baiyewu's calm, soothing vocals; the melodies are lovely and their lyrics are quite profound and very spiritual. I highly recommend this album!!!

Make me High (in a good way),

I loved their first album Ocean Drive and when the first single from this CD "Raincloud" was playing in the radio, I rushed to the store to buy this one too. And I was amazed with the whole collection. It was better than the first album with the songs like High, Lost in Space, Raincloud and Postcards From Heaven. This is one of my favorite CDs

Put it in, sit back, and relax. Or put it in, jump & dance!,

This is - no doubt - the best CD I own. It's music of the kind of quality that often remains undicovered by the mainstream. However, in Germany, this one made it. The songs started appearing on top of the airplay (radio) charts (that is, 1st place for SEVERAL weeks), before ANY Disco or MTV knew much about them... only then people started buying this CD. And by now, it's one of THE chartbusters of this summer. I can only agree: The lead singer, Tunde Baiyewu, has the most soothing, emphatic, passionate voice. I've seen him live: It's just like from the CD, so you can concider every track to be of full "unplugged" quality! This CD is a must-have, and believe me, I'm not alone with that opinion!

Another Pot Of Briliant Gold,

Lighthouse Family's second cd 'Postcards From Heaven' could have been called Ocean Drive Part Two or bonus tracks from the Ocean Drive album and it still would be priceless.
I say this because the formula, style and instrumentation remains the same yet is still refreshing and you can never grow tired of this two man band. For many months, the song 'High', the chart topping single from this cd would make me cry. Tunde's voice is very breezy and earthy, the lyrics are inspiring and hold so much promise and Paul's insrumentation in the background lends it's own magnetism. 'Raincloud' is a bit of a stretch for them, more dance Euro-pop than easy listening but it is an awesome song and I dont know why and I'm not sure I recall seeing the video but the song reminds me of a train speeding past. 'Question Of Faith' is one of my favourite Lighthouse Family songs of all time. Enough said. 'Once In a Blue Moon', 'Let It All Change' and the haunting 'Lost In Space' are slower but very good. The title track is very good but strangely for me not as strong as the others. Another winner from one of the coolest duos ever.

What can I say. Probably one of my favourite albums of all time, along with U2's "The Joshua Tree" and Lene Marlin's "Playing My Game". This album is quality, and as close to perfection as any compilation has, and perhaps will, ever come to.
Smooth vocals, incredible lyrics, and heart-stopping melodies are what this album provides. 'High' and 'Postcard From Heaven' are my personal favourites, although every song is strong here. Probably one of the most replayable albums I've ever come across, "Postcards From Heaven" is a masterful collection of vocal music. A must have for any fan of music itself.

Music to relax to,

As soothing as Ocean Drive, Postcards From Heaven does not disappoint those who are trying to escape from the noise but not sit in silence, or just relax on the couch but not fall asleep. The Lighthouse Family consistently puts out music you can listen to regardless of what mood you're in. And Tunde Baiyewu has a voice that makes you feel like the words he's singing are meant for you and tailored to whatever situation you may find yourself in on any given day. We can all relate to the lyrics, and we can all relax to the music. A great album!

When I first heard 'Raincloud' on the radio station a few years ago, I was totally blown away. Suddenly, sophistication has found a new name: Lighthouse Family.Lighthouse Family has been around for a few years now and consists of vocalist Tunde Baiyewu and keyboardist Paul Tucker, both from Newcastle. Though it was their first single 'Ocean Drive' which got me noticing them, it wasn't until I heard 'Raincloud' that I became seriously interested in their music. 'Postcards from Heaven' is nothing short of a smooth steady ride of uplifting tunes, soulful listenings and unpretentious lyrics. Lead singer Tunde Baiyewu may come across as a shy and understated individual but his voice speaks volume. Smooth, sexy and ultra slick - such is the sound of Lighthouse Family. Production value of this album is superb. A fine mix of electronic and acoustic instrumentation coupled by Baiyewu's charming laidback vocals make this album a must for all easy listening fans. Personal standout tracks: 'Raincloud' and 'Lost in Space'.

Stumbled on this while in Ireland and loved it again and again. Enjoyed all the tracks and each cut blends well into the mood of the whole album. Pleasant and infectious to those who enjoy the mood of an unique vocal blended with just simple melodies. Raincloud starts up the energy and is a catchy single. I'm not sure they're really a family but they've become one of mine. Appealing to a wide variety of tastes. Stop reading and buy this - someone like you will love it!
