5.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic book, Incredibly helpful, sensible creative advice, January 22, 2007
This review is from: Postpartum Depression For Dummies (Paperback)
This book goes way beyond the typical book about post-partum depression. It covers so many ways to understand and treat PPD - holistic, traditional medicine, alternate therapies, resources online, and much much more. Presented in a no-nonsense way, with compassion and sensitivity, this book, written by a woman who has "been there done that" will provide wanna-be mothers, soon-to-be mothers, already mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, doulas etc. with viable ways to understand and deal with PPD. Preventative ideas as well! I highly recommend this book, and encourage you to read it or give it as a gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life!, January 17, 2008
By
L. van Erp (SF Bay area, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Postpartum Depression For Dummies (Paperback)
I suffered PPD after the birth of my second son. As a stay-at-home mom caring for two small children, I felt overwhelmed and lost. I was suffering, as were those around me. After reading Dr. Shoshanna's book, I was able to make positive changes to bring balance to my life and overcome my PPD. I stopped beating myself up for not being able to "do-it-all." I started caring for myself by putting good nutrition in my body, taking breaks to have "me" time, and asking for help with housework and childcare. By doing these things, I saw changes immediately and I feel better than I have in a long time. And this book helped my family understand how I was feeling and how to support me. I wish I would have read Dr. Shoshanna's book before I had my first child. Now that I am pregnant with my third child, I plan to continue with the changes I've made and have a much happier experience with my newborn and my family. Thank you Dr. Shoshanna for writing this book and for helping so many women. All mothers (whether first time or not) should read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Author and Counselor, January 15, 2009
This review is from: Postpartum Depression For Dummies (Paperback)
I was able to heal and become the most amazing mom because of Dr. Bennett. I was suffering from the worst symptoms of PDD and it felt like the storm was never going to lift. My OB referred me to Dr. Bennett for counseling. I read this book before starting the sessions with her and knew I was on the right path. I found myself in her book, all my symptoms were explained and it helped me understand the feelings I was experiencing. The book provided such an understanding of my symptoms I was more aware of what I needed to focus on for each counseling session. Dr. Bennett is an uplifting counselor with such clarity I was able to leave each session with a renewed sense of self. Medication was my last resort and I am thankful I never reached that point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely informative, November 17, 2011
This review is from: Postpartum Depression For Dummies (Paperback)
This is a fantastic resource for anyone suffering through PPD or for those who know someone who is. It is very clear and easy to understand and it presents all the necessary information while still keeping the reader's attention. Dr. Bennett does her best to try and keep a heavy subject as readable as possible, including anecdotes and funny stories while doing a great job of convincing sufferers that they are not to blame. I highly recommend this book, I really enjoyed it and learned a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written!, October 29, 2011
This review is from: Postpartum Depression For Dummies (Paperback)
I liked this book a lot. I went through PPP (postpartum psychosis) three years ago with the birth of my second child. I read this book, and others, to get an idea of what these postpartum mood disorders are about. I think this book does a good job of explaining PPD for those who aren't really familiar with it. It also helps those that are going through it to get a game plan so that they can come out on top. This is a good book for anyone who just wants to know what PPD is all about and of course for those that may feel they are suffering from it.

4.0 out of 5 stars nothing dumb about postpartum!, April 28, 2011
This review is from: Postpartum Depression For Dummies (Paperback)
There is NOTHING DUMB about postpartum. This book is a great resource to help you determine whether or not you HAVE PPD and what to do about it. Do NOT suffer alone or try to "Make yourself well". There is nothing heroic in it. If I had this book when I had my daughter, I may not have suffered for nearly two years. I could have been enjoying my child!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! The information - and hope! - I've been searching for!, February 21, 2011
This review is from: Postpartum Depression For Dummies (Paperback)
This book is absolutely amazing!!
Almost 2 1/2 years ago, I gave birth to two beautiful twin daughters. Unfortunately, along with their arrival came the arrival of something much less desirable...postpartum depression. It was awful. I was terrified, and I felt horribly, horribly alone. I couldn't reach out to anybody, for fear of what a diagnosis would mean, but deep in my heart, I knew that something was terribly, terribly wrong. Still, I suffered in silence, and somehow made it through the most horrible ordeal of my life.
Recently, my husband and I decided that we were ready to try to have another baby. I knew with 100% certainty that I wanted another child, but the idea of going through another bout of PPD TERRIFIED me.
Then I found this book.
I ordered it online, and since it came in the mail, I've barely been able to put it down. It has given me such hope, confidence and PEACE to know that I'm not alone, that there is support out there, and that I may even be able to prevent it from happening altogether this time. I know I'm willing to try anything!
I am so thankful to Dr. Shosh for writing this book. I cannot say enough good things about it!! THANK YOU!!
