Product Description

IN REGARDS TO OUR COMPETITION -- WE MIGHT BE TWICE THE PRICE BUT WE'RE THREE TIMES THE POTATO NAIL! So why bake a potato using a stainless steel nail? It's simple: safer and the metal has a higher heat transfer rate than a potato. A nail inserted into a potato will transfer heat to the center allowing the potato to cook outward -- thus decreasing overall baking time. The nail's heat transfer properties allow conventional oven heat to travel into the center of the potato via the Spud Spikes® (SKU 858341003040) potato nail so the center of the potato will cook -- not just the outer layer. Enjoy a baked potato that's soft throughout! Try Spud Spikes to cook brats and sausages too. Not for microwave use, Spud Spikes are 6" long and made of No. 316 food-grade stainless steel, which leaves no dark marks in your potatoes. A total of 4 nails per set. A Spud Spikes Storage Tube is included with every set of Spud Spikes ordered. The next time you're in a hurry, use Spud Spikes The Original Food-Grade Stainless Steel 6-inch Baking Potato Nails. No kitchen should be without them -- order today! Don't forget to try our Spud Spikes Gourmet Potato Skin Rubs and Everyday Seasonings -- Pepper, Original Blend, and Garlic to achieve a crispy edible potato skin. Great for enhancing the flavor of baked potatoes; soups and salads; steamed vegetables; and steaks, chicken, fish, burgers, ham, and pizza -- or just let you mind go into overdrive! Both products are great for Tailgaters!

We have used aluminum potato nails for years - which considering the concerns about ingesting aluminum, doesn't seem like a great idea. Since these are steel, this is a better product. The main downside of these is their width. The nails are fatter than I expected, so they seem like overkill for smaller potatoes. I happened to meet one of the product developer/owners at a Home & Garden show after the purchase - he recommended trying them for cooking bratwurst and other sausages. I'm definitely going to try that.

These nails reduced my baking time by 40-50% and they come out perfect. No guess work, no uncooked centers, time it once to your preferred firmness and use that time to help plan your potatoes correctly to the end cooking time of the rest of your meal. I hand wash most cooking utensils and these clean with ease. Handy holding case keeps them from getting lost amongst various drawers. I highly recommend them, I now bake potatoes weekly because they are more in line with the other items I prepare. Oil, sea-salt and season the outside will make them a hit.

The aluminum baking spikes which I've used for years have been mysteriously disappearing. These stainless spikes are the perfect replacement. They conduct the heat so well that the baking time is cut in half. Additionally the stainless will never rust. I just throw them into the dishwasher with the flatware.

I bought the Stainless Steel Spikes to put in the middle of banana bread when I bake it. I could never get it to cook in the middle. The spikes work perfectly, just make sure you grease them.

Am SO pleased with these nails. They're sturdy (no more bending like others), long enough for even large potatoes, and easy, easy to clean. I now have 3 sets. Would definitely recommend.

I was so glad to find these nails, I have had short one for along time but were way too short for large baked potatoes. I would have to use two of the short ones. With these one nail does the job. They also work good on sweet potatoes!! Thanks for solving my problem, We live at High Altitude and they really work.

Baked potatoes are one of our favorite meals. We use big baking potatoes and insert Spud Spikes in each end of the potato for baking. Unlike aluminum nails we have used in the past, Spud Spikes don't leave any icky dark marks inside the potatoes. The potatoes cook faster because Spud Spikes draw the oven's heat into the centers of the potatoes so they cook from the inside out as well as from the outside in. We have also discovered that our slow cooker is really a mini oven and sometimes we use it to bake potatoes. Spud Spikes work the same way as in a conventional oven: they draw the slow cooker's heat into the inside of the potatoes for faster cooking. We bake the potatoes on a rack in the slow cooker and leave the lid slightly ajar to release steam. It's a great way to bake potatoes for dinner when you need the oven for something else or don't want to heat up the kitchen.
