If you loved the book, you'll love this movie, but it leaves enough to the imagination that it can be seen by older teens. Ben Cross actually pulls off multiple roles and plays them well! While all 3 main characters, Hannah, Mary and Ikey are transported as criminals to penal colonies, the real plot centers around how two women try to destroy each other--one for noble reasons and without too much intention, and the other out of wickedness and spite. Ikey's bonds with several people catch your attention--as well as some of his funnier shennanigans. This is wonderful historical fiction, but it has all the elements of how one learns the meaning of loyalty, family, friendship and true love. It is bonds with others that help characters to survive, and those bonds that unite as well as divide. It also is a story of adventure and survival--survival being the most difficult thing these characters had to do in the harshest of times and in the harshest of places.
