1.0 out of 5 stars And What Exactly Was So Special?
This book was a bore and I can't imagine how this person even published a book. The literary world has been turned upside down by this morass of bad literature that's sweeping the landscape. Awful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch Story, September 27, 2004
This review is from: Potentially Yours (Paperback)
The events of September 11, 2001 shook this country to the core and changed the world as a whole. The attacks put things into a whole new perspective and caused many people to change their entire outlook. This is the case with Synthia Gage, the protagonist in Franklin White's latest title, Potentially Yours. Being an eyewitness to the attacks on the World Trade Center caused Synthia to realize that her whole life was not being lived to its potential. She decides to make drastic changes that have a spiraling affect on those closest to her: daughter, Clarke, her best friend, Byron, and her ex-husband, Thomas. All involved learn that although change is necessary, it may not always be easy.

Franklin White has penned a moving tale that encourages and inspires, while tackling social issues such as religion, domestic violence, and drugs. Potentially Yours is a page-turner from beginning to end. The rich characterizations allow the reader to feel an instant connection with Synthia, her family, and her associates. The story flows smoothly and is teased with just enough drama to make it engrossing without being over the top. Potentially Yours will challenge readers to take at look at their own lives to determine if they are living up to their full potential and inspire them to change.

4.0 out of 5 stars Many Stories Woven into One, July 16, 2004
By
This review is from: Potentially Yours (Paperback)
This story weaves several lives into a good read. Potentially Yours is a story of a family, a couple, a hip-hop super star and her disrespectful boyfriend, and a religiously confused women and her daughter. Franklin White captured my attention from page one.

Synthia Gage, one of the top literary agents in New York City, decides to make a major announcement to her family, group of close friends, and co-workers. Her decision is made after 9/11 tragedy makes her step back and reevaluate her life. Her choice touches the lives of those around her. How does this decision affect her and her ex husband, Thomas, who are living together only to raise their daughter together?

Thomas is one of the finest men in NYC and dating and falling for Susan, who was raised Muslim, but struggling with her faith. After a tragic event Thomas decides to adopt Susan's daughter, Stacey.

While Clarke, Synthia and Thomas' daughter, is dealing with issues of her own. At the age of 14 she gets pregnant and doesn't know who the father is. She seeks the counsel of her PH.D. cousin, whose office is in his car.

Mean while Byron, Synthia's best friend, gets in a financial bind after loaning thousands of dollars to his girlfriend Karen. And Hip-Hop superstar, Lil-Shae, believes that sex is the answer to selling millions of records and allows her disrespectful boyfriend to cheat on her.

Potentially Yours is filled with twist and turns that keep you from putting the book down.

5.0 out of 5 stars DRAMA FILLED!, January 6, 2005
By
This review is from: Potentially Yours (Paperback)
I thought this book was great! It starts off with a lady who is tryin to better her life, but everyone in her family along with her friends are affected by her decision to do better-even though she is really really paid and making more money than most people. Her change begins to start drama and from there the book goes into this rapper named Lil'Shae who is a trip and for some reason lets her boyfriend boss her around, tell her what to do and do freaky things to her even though she is the one making the money and paying all the bills while he sits around the house. There are other storylines as well, and they are all very good. Franklin White is still one of my favorite authors and he has to be in the top five authors writing fiction. I also like Eric Jerome Dickey and Zane. Read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, July 30, 2004
This review is from: Potentially Yours (Paperback)
I adored this novel! It was fantastic. You have a women who wants to change her life around a bit and others in her life who ae trying to tell her-"Everything is just fine."

I thought this novel hit home when it came to dysfunctional families who try to stay together along with the other relationships that occur with friends and associates.

The author did an excellent job with the rapper Lil' Shae! She was a mess and Synthia has her hands full trying to represent what Lil' Shae stands for and represents.

I give the book 5 stars only because I can't give more. This author is ranked up their with my favorites and that's including Dickey and Harris, may be a little better. This one you should read.

5.0 out of 5 stars 419 Pages of Living Up to His Potential, June 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Franklin White is my favorite author---hands down. He delivers such well-rounded books consistently. Fed Up With the Fanny, Til Death Do Us Part, and the the first from his amazing West Owens series---Money For Good is top notch. Here's an author that takes readers on an incredible ride from page one. How he comes up with such captivating story lines and three-dimensional characters is a force to be reckoned with. Potentially Yours was long. 419 pages? Who does that? But Franklin had a story to tell with characters that were memorable and had their own voices. Not a moment was predictable and what captured me was the true essence of the characters. Synthia, Thomas, Byron, Karen, and Lil' Shae were remarkable in their own ways. Stacey was a child prodigy. Little girls as intelligent as that do exist. Thomas was quite the man for making a difference in this little girl's life. The way Synthia and Clarke grew fond of her as well was beautiful. This book's content was original and relatable as 9/11 touched us all. Sometimes your potential means being humble and realizing who you are and truly appreciating those that enhance your life. That is what I will take away from another one of Franklin White's amazing books. Keep `em coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars Drama Filled!, September 28, 2005
By
This review is from: Potentially Yours (Paperback)
This book is awesome. The main character Sylvia took it upon herself to let go of all the people in her life who she felt were holding her back even though she was in others eyes "had it all"

Her daughter is upset of her mothers changes, the male best friend is going through withdrawals of not being with his best friend and the playboy father and ex-husband goes through some drama himself along with mega rapper Lil'Shae who steals the entire book with her drama and taking care of her man who mentally and physically abuses her. I have read all of the authors books and this one is another winner. Will continue to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous read!, January 30, 2005

I loved every facet of this book! All the characters gave me a situation in which I could really feel and the main character defintely had her work cut out for her as she tried to weave herself into a new prospective on life and deal with those who she felt was really holding her back from achieving even more great things.

Franklin White continues to be one of my favorite authors. Potentially Yours was fast paced, engrossing and the relationships between the ex-husband and step daughter were very hartwarming. I think this is one of the better books of 2004!

2.0 out of 5 stars Puzzled?????, July 2, 2006
This review is from: Potentially Yours (Paperback)
I really don't know what to say about this book. It's like it had potential to be a good book but it didn't quite make it.It was good that it was an up to date book meaning it centered around a character making a change because of 9/11 and then you had a person struggling with religion but other than that it really didn't do anything for me.Fed Up with the Fanny and A Cup Of Love were really good books but I read this and I'm like what happened.
