This review is from: The Pothunters - From the Manor Wodehouse Collection, a selection from the early works of P. G. Wodehouse (Paperback)
In the beginning, there was The Pothunters.According to my Wodehouse bibliography, this was the first book to come from the pen of the immortal humorist, a schoolboy story revolving around stolen sports awards. While not as sophisticated as the fully mature P.G., the traces of genius are present, and easily recognizable by Wodehouse fans. The twisted plot that was the heart of all his farce, the unusual sentence structure, a tense all his own, and the good hearted souls at odds with stuffed shirts, all of them baffled in one way or another, are all imprinted on these pages. And who else but Wodehouse would, in tribute to his own classical education, have a character quote Thucydides? In Latin yet. A winner.
