Editorial Reviews

From Kirkus Reviews

This boisterous picture book, a kindred spirit to Eve Merriam's Bam Bam Bam (1995), is a rollicking salute to the utter chaos created by a curious tot let loose in the kitchen. Skillfully epitomizing the boundless inquisitiveness of toddlers, Hubbell describes the exuberant explorations of one mischievous child. Bouncy rhymes crescendo with the growing excitement of a baby as it experiments with different objects: hitting, slamming, and banging them together, creating a cacophony of sound. Children will enjoy ``reading'' the sound effects, set in a bold typeface that stands out from the rest of the text. DeGroat's colorful illustrations humorously depict the antics of a cat, a dog, and a baby as they revel in this lively impromptu performance. About the Author

Patricia Hubbell has been writing poetry since she was eleven years old. In 1998, her Wrapping Paper Romp was selected as a Parents Magazine Book of the Year. Patricia Hubbell lives with her husband, Harold Hornstein, in Easton, Connecticut, the small town where she was born. Remembering how much their children and grandchildren loved to bounce when they were very young prompted her to write Bouncing Time. "Bouncing is one of the joyous things little kids do," she says. "It reflects their constant enthusiasm."

5.0 out of 5 stars A Winner!, January 18, 2002

We just received this book as a gift a few days ago and my 2-year old son has asked Mommy to read it no fewer than twenty times already! The sing-song rhyme pattern is lots of fun, somewhat similar to Boynton in Barnyard Dance, another of our favorites. We get loud and crazy when we read this one! The illustrations are lovely and provide lots of scope for discussion and I Spy games. This is a terrific book and I would be surprised if your child didn't enjoy it tremendously!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for all babies!, January 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Pots and Pans (Hardcover)
My 2 1/2 year old has LOVED this book for well over a year. It's perfect for boys AND girls, with a surprise twist at the end...turns out the baby is in the kitchen with her DAD, not mom. Hurray! 1 word of caution...this book is not for you if you can't stand the noise of pots and pans banging together in the kitchen. As for me, I'm thrilled with any distraction that allows me and my toddler to peacefully co-exist in the kitchen when I need to cook/clean. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cute Story for your 10 month to 18 month old, May 20, 2003
By
This review is from: Pots and Pans (Hardcover)
This book can be read very quickly for the impatient baby, or savored for the older toddler. The pictures are cute, and the main adult in the story is the father. My toddler liked the presence of the dog and cat. She enjoyed the book since she was 8 months old. It is not one of her favorites now at 2 1/2 but we still read it occasionally since it only takes about 2 minutes to get through. The rhythm and rhyme flow well.

This would make a great baby gift!
