5.0 out of 5 stars Great!
Having read all the books in English, I picked this up to see what I could make of it. It is extremely well-edited; it keeps the important plot points and preserves all the flavor of the original book. Reading it in French, I noticed some subtle (and really adorable) things that I missed in English, simply becuase I had to read more carefully. I kept my dictionary...

3.0 out of 5 stars I miss all of the sundry details.
While this translation stays true to the main story and its characters, I notice a few things that are omitted completely. Unfortunately, these are all of the bits of sundry details that helped to paint the Wizarding world more vividly in the English version.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new way to read Harry Potter..., September 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The book offers an exciting way to read Harry Potter again. It's cool to see the ways in which the French and American versions differ and ways in which it was altered. I think if someone was looking for Harry Potter with a bit more descriptive fluff, then the French version is best. Overall I loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Translation, July 7, 2011

This translation is very well done. I purchased this book after spending large amounts of time in francophone countries and seeking to improve both my French grammar as well as to find something simple to begin reading fully in French. That being said, this is perfect for those seeking to learn French through reading (if you've memorized parts of the books in English). It is also a way to enter again into the world of Harry Potter....

This book is masterfully translated. The character names shed new lights on personalities, and it is a perfect way to once again experience the magic of Harry Potter. This is highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent translation, June 25, 2011

The Harry Potter series has enchanted me for years. I decided to read the Harry Potter books in French to revitalize my somewhat rusty French. I was delighted to see that the translator did an excellent job of translating the story, and I was especially happy that he kept JK Rowling's spirit of imaginative fun in his translation of names of places, people and things in the magical world. Kudos to Jean-Francois Menard for a superb job!
