5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Halloween
I ordered the robe for my 9-year-old granddaughter to wear for Halloween. She is a huge Harry Potter fan, having already read all the books. She loves the robe and I am impressed by how well-made it is. The fleece material is warm enough to keep her comfortable while trick-or-treating on a cold night. The pointy hood will give protection even in the rain. After the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Robe, no buttons
I bought this robe for my daughter because she loves Harry Potter. The price was right, and it has a lot of play value. She wears it everywhere, and pretends to be Hermione - I've had to dodge the Imperius Curse four times this week!

I bought this robe for my daughter because she loves Harry Potter. The price was right, and it has a lot of play value. She wears it everywhere, and pretends to be Hermione - I've had to dodge the Imperius Curse four times this week!

On the downside, the picture on the product page and on the packaging show two buttons that hold the robe closed. The actual robe has no buttons and no closure, so the robe flaps open, creating a bit of a tripping hazard. I fixed this with some buttons and velcro from my sewing box, but I am a little disappointed that the picture was so misleading.

After the holiday she can even use it as a bathrobe. The size Large fits her perfectly, reaching almost to the floor on her tall, thin frame. This item is priced fairly, and the convenience of having it shipped is well worth the cost.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing DELUXE about it, August 31, 2008
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Harry Potter Child's Costume Deluxe Harry Potter Gryffindor Robe, Medium (Toy)
The robe looks like it is right out of the movie, however, the material it is made out of is not only unidentifiable, it is very thin. It is a good thing this robe wasn't for a "rough and tumble" child, because it wouldn't last a week. My daughter not only planned on wearing it for Halloween, but mostly wanted to use it for "dress-up." Her friend has a robe that looks the same, but it is made of a much thicker, softer, and higher quality fabric. I am soooooo disappointed by the quality. Cheap quality, but not cheap price. Using the word, "deluxe" to describe this robe is a flat out lie.

4.0 out of 5 stars There are two types of robes for sale, same photos used, September 11, 2011
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

This is misleading, since these are actually two very different products.

One robe is made with black fleece with red trim meant to suggest lining, and a real embroidered Gryffindor crest. The hood is fully lined with the red material. It is very good quality for the money. My niece put it on as soon as she unwrapped it in the afternoon, and did not take it off until bedtime. She wears it all the time and it is holding up great.

The second is just junk, very thin and flimsy material, crest is printed on, red trim is on the edges of the robe only, not in the hood.

Out of the box, the first robe needed some serious ironing and the red lining was not always stitched in well, but those are the only complaints. I would not bother at all with the second cheaper version. I looked at it in the store and would not pay $5.00 for it, let alone $20.

Make sure you are buying the one that says it has the "embroidered crest" - otherwise, you are getting seriously ripped off.

I was pleased to see the quality of the fabric. Usually these costumes are practically tissue paper, i.e., junk. This is a felt/fleece fabric and will be great for Halloween. I was worried about sizing, since some people say they run large, and some small. This size large fits my 11-year-old daughter just PERFECTLY, she is about 60" tall and regular build, couldn't have asked for a better mail-order fit. She says she will wear it for a bathrobe after Halloween!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice costume - great quality, October 8, 2009

The product is very nice felt type material - actually will be like a nice jacket on a cool brisk halloween night. Quality is better than expected for a mail order costume. Nothing like the cheap "don't get near a fire" material you find on racks at stores. I would highly recommend spending the few extra bucks to get this over the entry level costume (although I personally have not seen that one, I don't think they could make it much nicer than this for about $30). It is especially worth the extra $ if your child plays dress up or is the biggest Harry Potter fan in the world and will wear it night and day.

This costume is made of heavy fleece like material. My daughter is in heaven and can't wait to be Hermoine for Halloween. We'd recommend the costume.

This robe is nice and polyester fleecy. A medium fits my 6 year old perfectly (if that helps anyone with sizing ... she's a bit tall, but not crazy tall). Nice thick fabric, better than I was expecting and very warm. I think we'll get a decent amount of wear out of this one compared to other costumes of this type. Overall, a nice robe (especially if you can get it on sale!) and the pointed hood is ridiculously cute.

Why is it that they can't make costumes more durable? This was not a cheap costume but the material is so cheap and the costume comes apart immediately. Parts of it never function well - the clasp to the robe is magnetic and it doesn't really hold ever. My advice? make your own, or pay someone to make one of these Hogwarts robes.
