What's on Your Mind?: Lightning-round Q&A with cast and crew

Cast members sum up their characters in One-Minute Drills

Editorial Reviews

Additional Features

The bonus features on the two-disc edition are some of the best yet for Potter fans. The cast, having now grown up on a movie set for nearly a decade, each host behind-the-scenes looks at the aspects of filmmaking that interest them most: editing (Daniel Radcliffe), makeup (Emma Watson), stunt training (Rupert Grint), etc. (this includes James Phelps--a.k.a. Fred Weasley--who did double duty as a floor runner during production and laments that part of his job is fetching his other castmates tea and sweets). Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy, also hosts a lightning-round Q&A with cast members on their favorite music, foods, and more. In "One Minute Drills," they're further challenged to summarize the story arc of their characters throughout the entire series in 60 seconds. The most compelling feature on this disc, however, is the excellent documentary "J.K. Rowling: A Year in the Life," which follows the author through writing the final book (you literally see her hit her final keystroke and hand off the briefcase to her literary agent at Heathrow), the red-carpet rollout, and her childhood haunts, including a tearful visit to the humble flat she lived in when she penned the very first installment. In the doc's in-depth interviews, Rowling also freely answers probing questions about her childhood--the early death of her mother, her estrangement from her father, and her bout with depression; her husband and sister are interviewed as well. She's portrayed as a shy, self-effacing, type-A personality uncomfortable with her success, particularly when she balks at a question about wondering if people close to her will ask her for money. And finally, there's the icing on the cake: snippets of scenes being filmed and nearly one minute of finished footage from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. No Potter fan should be without this edition in their Muggle hands. --Ellen A. Kim

Product Description

Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort’s defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Even as the decisive showdown looms, romance blossoms for Harry, Ron, Hermione and their classmates. Love is in the air, but danger lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars dvd details November 26, 2009

Since I had to look elsewhere for DVD details (to decide whether to buy the 2-disc or one-disc film), I thought I'd post here:

1-Disc Wide screen and Full Screen DVD

*No special features
*RRP $28.98
2-Disc Digital Copy Special Edition DVD

*Widescreen version only

I can't believe the negative reviews. I read the book and thought the filmmakers did a fantastic job with it. Anyone who wants a film to be an exact replica of any book should do themselves a favor and just read the book again. Am looking forward to enjoying it again (and again) on DVD.

Warner Brothers is trying to fool us again - calling this an "Ultimate Edition" when it is NOT the extended version of the film. It comes with behind the scenes extras and commentaries, but the movie itself is the same! I expect this is because they decided after the first 2 Ultimate Editions that they would wait and re-release all 8 movies at once in another Ultimate Edition, but this time a Box Set with extended versions of all films - to entice everyone to buy all the movies yet again. Hold off for now and watch your DVD copies - next year we can all buy the REAL Ultimate Editions!

1.0 out of 5 stars Blu-ray was mastered with artifacts in the image December 7, 2009
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is not a review of the movie, but rather of the poor job Warner Home Video has done with the Blu-ray video transfer. There are horizontal bands visible in various scenes throughout the movie. They are not constantly visible, but appear primarily in scenes where there are large areas of darkness - though of course that means they are visible in quite a few scenes of this very dark movie.
The bands are not being produced by my player - I can see them on all three of my Blu-ray players, including my PS3 and two computers with Blu-ray drives. The bands are part of the image and are visible when the movie is freeze-framed.
I recommend that those considering a purchase refrain from buying this disc until and unless a replacement is offered by Warner Home Video.
I own over 200 Blu-ray discs, and this is the first time I have seen this issue on any transfer. It is obvious to me that this disc was mastered incorrectly.

It is a shame there are no English sub titles. I am hard of hearing and do not understand half of what is said. I wonder if there is a dvd with English sub titles ?

Half Blood really bad picture quality.
I agree. The movie on this bluray appears dark consistently even when watching at night time. I'm dissappointed. I thought of recalibrating my tv. But didn't want to mess with it.

Drinking the Horcrux
The liguid was not the Horcrux. It was a cursed liquid to protect the Horcrux. Drinking it was the only way to get it out of the bowl it was in.

does this include a Marauder's Map
Yes, it does. I am not sure if it is the exactly same as the other one sold by Noble (I haven't bought that one because I thought it was a bit too expensive). The one included in this DVD pack is a bit small imo, but it looks nice.

Blu-ray bonusview problems
Felicia, I also have a samsung blu-ray player and had the same problem. Start the movie in maximum movie mode and then while it is playing, turn it off. It worked for me and stopped the popups. Hope this helps.
